glad the ball is finally rolling on getting some answers though

mrssalvo....After reading the article you posted the link for, I was hesitant to send him the diamond at all in case the police shut down his store. Do you think I over-reacted?

Jacob''s rep said she didn''t know the whole story either, but assured me that the stone would be set by DK; the article also stated that Jacob was turning himself in on July 12th I believe.

honestly, I wouldn''t do it. I don''t think I would trust a guy with my $$$$$$ stone who''s been indicted for money laundering and has an upcoming court date. As much as I would want that setting

Me too, I wouldn''t do it, deal or no deal. Too risky, IMHO.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Got to be KIDDING me, right? Maybe read some of the other news coverage where they talk about SEIZING ASSETS etc. Mob ties? Money laundering? Surrendering in July .. but maybe you can get yr non-Daniel K price, but actually Daniel K SETTING FIRST???

**edited to avoid speculation

I wondered at mrssalvo even asking that question??????

There's no way in h*** I'd trust that guy with my stone after I read that link.

Thank goodness I didn't shut down the computer after I read SqureCut's post to arrange sending the diamond to him. I e-mailed Jonathan telling him about " the latest news" and he hadn't heard about it either.

Apparently the same info about the infamous Jack the Jeweler has been in newspapers and on TV all over the US.

That's a problem with living in Canada, you don't hear all the NYC gossip.

Thanks again for preventing me from making what would have been a very costly mistake.

Tried to add this to my post, but couldn''t.........Jack offers great prices!!!!

I only asked b/c I know how difficult it is to get *just* a DK setting. I am still curious as to how he''s able to accomplish it unless DK is in on it. Bill Pearlman said in another thread the DK has to be consistant or else vendors would here of the discounting and drop the line. I just was just confused b/c of the way you worded your statement, saying they said they would sell you the setting and then you heard back. I didn''t know if they then changed their story and said they couldn''t sell you just the setting. Anyway, if this guy is guilty of the charges it wouldn''t surprise me if he doing some unethical things in his jewelry business either.

when I said maybe you could squeeze it in b/f the court date..I was kidding

Clarification: When the sales rep from Jacob & Co called back, it was to give me the price (very reasonable, I might add) and to confirm that the stone would be sent to DK, set by him, and returned in 3 weeks. That should have raised a huge red flag right there because, as you stated, Bill Pearlman said only DK stones in DK settings.....

"I''m still curious as to how he''s able to accomplish it unless DK is in on it". Interesting thought...

For what it''s worth, I don''t think my 2.26 was going anywhere near DK.

I realized that you were just kidding when you said that he might be able to work it in b/f court date. I''m not quite THAT desperate mrs s

I hope your other vendor will come thru and your project can finally get going. I truly cannot wait to see the outcome.

Isaku,
Sorry about Jacob the jeweler. I''m still not clear on what he did. He''s got dozens of DK rings in his store so I''m sure he has a relationship with DK, anyway, I''m glad you heard back from the other jeweler!

Hi SquareCut.....Your idea was much appreciated and I''m certain you meant no harm. In fact, when I read your post and then talked to the sales rep at Jacob & Co, I was beyond thrilled.

After reading mrssalvo''s post, I phoned J & Co again just to make sure that what I had read in the link was indeed referring to that jeweller. It was!!!! The offer they had made was just too good to be true, and I wasn''t willing to "sacrifice" the 2.26 to get a deal from a person who was facing criminal charges.

Thanks for your interest in my project, windowshopper.

I have to say, though, that I don''t care for anything that even hints at vintage- no beading, no engraving etc. I''m looking for the elegance of step cuts all the way. The reason I chose the halo design in the first place was to get "finger coverage" for my size 8 mitt without spending many thousands more to have a larger asscher. If money were no object, I''d be looking for a 5c+ asscher and put it in the Cartier repro setting without hesitating for a moment.

Thanks for your input.
