Are you the buyer? Or the recipient? And do you know that the recipient wants one of those cuts? They''re quite different from one another. Hard to say unless we know more!

I''m the indecisive recipient

Can''t decide which one I like more!

How exciting PomJuice! branded or unbranded asscher?

Ohhh recipient, goody.

Well I have to say, I LOVE both but for different reasons. The asscher is gorgeous and mesmerizing, but looks dirty very easily and doesn''t throw off sparkle like the lucida.

For an everyday ring, because I love sparkle, I would say the lucida.

But I *LOVE* the asscher too...I just think I would prefer that as an alternative ring rather than an everyday ring.

But that''s just me!

They are very different looks, so it''s hard to decide. In general, do you like step cuts or brilliant cuts. Do you want a whole bunch of little tiny sparkle or broad sparkle? Do you want an antique classy look or a modern unique look??

I think we would be going for an unbranded asscher (square emerald) or unbranded lucida type (lucere or square radiant). I''ve tried on both stones, and love them both for the reasons the other posters specified. I love the step cut look for its precision & clean lines, but I also love the sparkly look the lucida gives from afar. But from too far, the luceres I tried on looked like rounds, the square shape didn''t seem as defined. When I looked for square radiants, I had trouble finding any that weren''t rectangular (same with tiffany lucidas). My concern with an asscher is that it wouldn''t be sparkly enough, like it looks in the jewelry store ...

I guess I am truly undecided - I wish I could have one of each!

I just posted the poll to see what is the general preference on this board, and what would be more impressive to most people, since I can''t seem to decide on my own ;)

The only person you should be looking to impress is yourself. EVERYONE thinks different things are impressive, some people think only size is impressive (like the people who buy 2ct. frozen spit at zales), some people think only D IF diamonds are impressive, the list goes on.

Buy what makes YOU the most happy, and if it''s really a toss up, toss a coin!

I like the Lucida/Lucere because it combines the clean lines of a step cut with the sparkle of a brilliant cut. I eventually went with neither, though (I stuck with good ol'' princess). A cut corner square stone like the GOG Cut Corner Square Brilliant or the WF X-factor might be a nice alternative to throw in the mix too.

I love ECs but am not a huge fan of asschers. So I chose the Lucida. However, I do not like radiants. To me, a radiant and a Lucida are not alike at all.

For me...the lucida.

I love Asschers, but I am incredibly biased.

It depends on the asscher. If it''s a Daniel K in a Daniel K setting. Asscher. HANDS DOWN.

I''d take a cushion over either of those if it doesn''t come in a daniel K setting though... and if the cushion comes in a Daniel K -- EVEN BETTER.

I love an asscher as well.

However, you''ll see if you do a search on here that there are a number of women who originally had an asscher as an ering and eventually traded it in for something else.

Asschers are very hard to keep clean, they are small for their carat weight, and they don''t have the sparkle that other cuts have...

That being said, the first time I looked at an asscher, I knew it was the stone I wanted.

So yeah...as much as I love an asscher, they are definitely not for everyone!

It depends on the size. If the diamond is at least 6mm, I''d take the asscher. It needs to be big enough for the steps to be visible and fully appreciated. Otherwise, a Lucida. But then, I am more of a step cut kind of gal! Radiants just don''t do anything for me. Cushions, however, are yummy too!
