Greetings,
Although I''ve been a lurker, this is my first post. Hello everyone :)

I have been reading my asscher education posts and am now ready to look for a stone with intent.

My budget is $5000-$6500, though of course I would prefer something on the lower end of that :)

I''m looking for:
a graded diamond
preferably around 1.5ct
not so particularly concerned with color, especially if there is fluoresence
VS2 or above
excellent/very good cut
magnified pictures, idealscope, and other stuff that will make me comfortable about the diamond I''m buying
something that will make me stare at my hand, (but hopefully not cause a car accident)

I''ve emailed a few companies, but am just wondering how I might find a diamond that wows me when I''m not actually there to see it? Trust of the vendor? Or just choose a reputable company that has a good return policy?

BTW, I live in an extended suburb of NYC.

good old gold is within day trip distance of you has great prices and knows asschers very very well.
Best of both worlds online price and get to see it in person.
Its what id do if I was in the area.
Call and make an appointment and give them time to call some in.
They will be open again on tue. Sun and Monday are their days off.

Welcome, Chris! I can attest to the excellence of Good Old Gold! They are helping me find a stone now. Unlike you, I am having to do it long distance, but I am not afraid because they have an excellent return policy. Like Storm said, make an appointment and you will have an excellent experience! Yup, what they said. If I lived any where near NYC I''d be spending a lot of time at GOG. Would be a very dangerous situation for me (or dh''s wallet

I understand that an great asscher "by the numbers" is difficult to determine, but is there anything I really should be staying away from, in terms of depth and table? Or is it all preference?

Is cut more important towards beauty? Or symmetry? Or are they both about the same. Do you think my thoughts about never thinking about a g/g diamond are valid? Or are there some beauties out there with g/g?

Oh, and Lizzy - You''re welcome to come for a day trip to GOG or the diamond district. My toddler and I would love to go shopping with you :) I make the trip to Lowell about once every 2 weeks - it''s not too bad.

BTW, how do I attach an image from my harddrive?

Go to GOG, I bought my asscher from them. Jon is great to work with. Numbers are a guideline, but you really have to see the stone to know if it''s pleasing to your eye. The windmill patterns ETC. Storm knows this cut inside and out. I''m sure he''ll post the general specs as far as the table and depth are concerned.

They can do better than that one.
The pavilion angles are borderline and its on the dark side.
Too much green on the aset and not enough red.
 
In general Asschers require that you work with a vendor on finding the right stone dont let that one not being top end throw you, what happens is that if someone has GOG call in a couple asschers they go up on the website for the client to consider as well as other communication on them that sometimes means that less than awesome asschers will be up.It drives me nutz sometimes.
So its best to contact them and work with them on getting the perfect diamond in for you.
 
That must make it very difficult and frustrating for the consumer?

At times yes it can be but a kicken asscher is worth it.
When the AGS0 asschers hit the market maybe it will change for the better.
Right now they are a small but growing market.
The good thing is that gog has a lot of experence helping consumers get kicken asschers.

table is a lot bigger than I prefer but since you are going to see them in person some people love them, Id make sure they have a simular smaller tabled asscher for you to compare it too.
 
Hey Honeydoll another vote here for GOG and if you are in driving distance you are one lucky puppy! We had to do everything online and over the phone. But I''ll tell you I would do it again in a heartbeat I LOVE my GOG asscher it''s GORGEOUS nicer than anything else I saw in person prior and Jonathan and staff are just AWESOME to work with. Run pix past the PS crew too, when Storm says kicken buy it! Best of luck can''t wait to see what you get!
