Hi everyone

I''m new to PS but have been lurking all week. I''m hoping you all can help with an asscher hunt - my bf and I are talking about getting engaged and discussing stones and I''m absolutely terrified about getting ripped off due to lack of research. I''ve read a lot of the posts here on asschers and have fallen in love with the Cartier 1922 pic that is often posted.

I''ve contacted WF with my specs. Can you take a look and tell me which stones to take a closer look at? Are there any red flags on the listed stones?
(My specs: D - G, VVS1 - VS1, 2.0c - 2.7c, ratio 1.0 - 1.02, budget up to $45k)

Asscher 2.49 E VVS1 GIA VTK N EX EX N 68.7% 62% 7.54x7.48x5.14 $40,478
Ratio 1.01:1

Asscher 2.45 D VS1 GIA STK-TK N EX VG N 69.2% 64% 7.44x7.41x5.13 $37,396
Ratio 1:1

Asscher 2.60 G VVS1 GIA STK-TK N EX VG N 68.2% 62% 7.63x7.52x5.13 $37,237
Ratio 1.01:1

Asscher 2.75 G VS1 GIA TK N EX EX N 68.8% 63% 7.80x7.68x5.28 $36,300
Ratio 1.02:1

And sorry to ask for so much help but if anyone can answer the following, I would really appreciate it!

- Can anyone recommend another website for sourcing asschers online?
- Are the table and girdles on the above stones ok for an asscher?
- Does anyone know if stones are cheaper in the US than in Europe (we live in London but I''m from the US and go back every other month and am trying to make our budget). Can anyone recommend a good jeweler in London that has knowledge of asschers? It seems no one really stocks them
- Am I out of my mind for considering making a purchase like this online - on previous posts I have heard with asschers especially it is important to see them in person to determine fire and brilliance. Has anyone had any particularly good/bad experiences with online??

Thanks in advance for answering to my post!!

There are some better options and those prices are not very competitive if they are the wire price if they are the credit card price then they are about right.

I would start with these 2.
2.82 E VS2 67.9% 62% GIA thk no vg ex no 7.82*7.75*5.26 $11915 $33600

2.75 G VS1 68.8% 63% GIA thk no ex ex no 7.80x7.68x5.28 $12690 $34898 <--- compare price to above.

edit: found a picture for the 3rd one and it isn't great so removed it...

As for other websites...

GOG is the king of steps cuts followed by JA and NiceIce followed by WF in my book.

JA is more do it yourself than GOG but they often have a lot up with pictures for me to weed through.
Where the rest of them you almost always have to have some called in.
Jon at GOG has an excellent eye for them and provides videos which help compare them.
Todd at niceice has a excellent eye for asschers.
WF I don''t always agree with on what is a good one but they have called in some excellent ones.

Thanks Karl - very helpful! Will try to get an IS for the one you said might be "kicken" and post. WF told me that the stones they were showing all had crowns of 10 - 15%... something I read you said to look for on a previous post!

Is a very thick girdle ok for an asscher?

In terms of clarity, is VS1 and VS2 ok for asschers? A B&M salesguy told me to look for VVS1 and VVS2 because it''s more noticeable for asschers but maybe he was just trying to get us to get a more expensive stone...

Thanks!

It is very rare but sometimes a vs2 will have a visible inclusion in a larger asscher but it is rare.
It has happened one time that I know of out of several hundred of them posted here.
Crown height over 10% is important and there is no way to tell without a full sarin/ogi/helium scan which means it gets called in or is in stock.
JA can run an ogi scan on the one they have in stock.

The others would have to be called in by the vendor of your choice and they can eyeball the inclusions, get pictures and get the crown height.

edit: 10%-15% has been changed to over 10% CH with no upper limit.

vthk girdle - it depends on how much the spread is impacted sometimes it isn't at all compared to similar stones, sometimes it is.
Sometimes its just worth it if the rest is kicken.
While a med or sl-thick or thick girdle would be nice vthk isn't automatically a reason to skip a stone.

I have the Sarin and IS for the stone but am having a heck of a time compressing them - PDFing didn''t seem to work.
Anyone know how I can do it without photoshop??

kicken top notch cut.
cut wise I would buy it in a heartbeat.
The question is does the color/clarity/price suite you?
You might be able to go a little bigger with other options for less or the same money but cut wise that is as good as they get.

For an asscher, which parameter would you sacrifice first (color or clarity) and why? Where do you think there is more room for flexibility to get more carats?

clarity to vs as its almost always eyeclean but vvs is more mind clean for some people.
Color I''m good down to g/h.
The big problem is finding another one that well cut.
