Hi All,
I have been lurking on the site for a few weeks now, and have learned a lot. However, I am a still a little nervous to make a final purchase.
Below are some Asschers from JamesAllen that I like, either bc of the numbers or for the looks of the stone. I think this is what is causing a roadblock for me, many of ones I like dont necessarily fit into the "good numbers" category, they have - depths over 65%, tables of 60%, etc
Any guidance would be helpful.
Thank you in advance Asscher Experts.

Hi and welcome!

I am not an expert, but I did do a lot of research on Asschers recently. Based on what I have learned (primarily from Storm, who will likely be around to weigh in) is that depth is fine up to 70% and crowns up to 65% are fine. So, you might have a little more room with the stats than you think.

Do you like the thin windmills, then? I like fat windmills, so this may not help but I found this one:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VVS1-Ideal-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1129538.asp

It was listed under Emeralds (which you should also check and to find Square Emeralds, since non-Royal Asschers are Square Emeralds), and I love the pattern. If you are into thin, windmills, though, it might not be the one for you. You will also want to get an Idealscope or ASET when you have your picks narrowed down to make sure they will perform. Good luck!

nice one

Thanks Strm and Kat for your responses.

I was looking for something in the 1.00 - 1.05 size, so storm the second you recommended looks good to me. However there is something in the center I noticed. The GIA lists is as a cloud. Is that ok? Also it is a VS2, which many people have said is cutting it close on an Asscher.
But I do like the look/shape of it.

What I meant to say in my first post was quite a few had depths below 65 and tables above 65. Which is the reverse of what it should be. For Ex. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VVS2-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-1131844.asp

Also Im not sure I understand yet how the dark centers translate on stone in person. But it doesnt seem to be a concern, but instead is contrast.

Storm I look forward to more of your recommendations.

Does anyone know if GOG has a store you can visit?

Good luck on your hunt!

Strm/Kat
Why do you both prefer the 1.04?
Isnt the crown a little high?

1.04
G
VS2
Table Percentage: 60.73%
Depth Percentage: 68.04%
Crown Depth: 19.20%

1.01
G
VS2
Table Percentage: 61.76%
Depth Percentage: 72.83%
Crown Depth: 15.03%

For me, it is just an aesthetic thing. It''s got everything I love about Asschers; fat windmills, clipped corners, very square, very concentric (excellent symmetry a huge plus, imo).

The analytic pics also seem to suggest that it will perform well, but Storm will know much more about that.

I think the numbers are a good guidepost to follow, but ultimately, you will want to enjoy looking at it (or you will want your SO to enjoy looking at it). I would just love to have this stone looking back at me when I catch a glimpse of my e-ring.

ch of 19% is awesome
