Hello, brand spanking new lurker here. I am an asscher lover, have been this way for a while (card-carrying...). My darling BF proposed and rightly so, let me pick my e-ring, saving him much future hassle. Anyway, when picking the diamond, HE was insistent on yellow gold w/ as perfect a diamond as we could get for the money. I wanted A rock (didn''t care about perfection at all). Anyway, here are the stats on what we got:

Yellow gold band, platinum trellis solitaire setting (its on brilliance.com).
Diamond is:
G color
measures 6 x 6 x 4
No inclusions, no fluorescence, VG cut
VVS2
1.25 carats

So, he kinda won in the quality vs quantity dept. And I have to say, I love my diamond (hold on ladies, the camera battery is charging). It SPARKLES, which is a lot to say for an asscher (ok, really a square emerald).

Alright, so here is the question. I originally wanted a pave diamond WR. After having tried on 1 row through 3 row pave, domed, non-domed, in about 20 different varieties, I think this isn''t such a good choice for an asscher. I really want a little asscher band so I can wear w/ or w/o the engagement ring. Eventually, we want to turn the e-ring into a three stone trellis (he thinks he''s going to upgrade the center stone first, over my dead body!). So, we need some kind of asscher band, not huge, and here''s the twist: IN YELLOW GOLD. I''ve found a channel on BN, but think the yellow gold next to a row of asschers will be bad. I found another 7 stone asscher on BN, like it, but then its gotta be platinum for the shank and the rest YG. Is this too much platinum for a YG e-ring?

What do we do? I am so sick of trying on bands that I don''t like. And, I think its hard to put anything that sparkles next to an asscher b/c it makes the asscher dull. And, to be honest, I''m fine w/ the YG. I just have to figure out how to make it work.

Suggestions? Pictures? I''ve looked everywhere. Looking at white flash for the custom thing. But anybody w/ an asscher in yellow gold who has any ideas for the wedding band in YG too?

Welcome to Pricescope Beadchick. Congratulations on your engagement.

I think you might get more response to your question if you post it in "Rocky Talk".

Your e-ring sounds like a showstopper (can''t wait for pics!).

I don''t have a yellow gold set, but I can sympathize with your dilemma. I, also an asscher girl, had a very, very hard time finding a wedding band. I looked far and wide for asscher bands, french cut bands, baguette bands (just look at my posting history if you want the full, gory details), etc. I tried on several bands and inquired at many companies about having something made with step cuts and tried on everything I could find in B&Ms within 100 miles, probably. I was honestly talking with DH about a reset, because I thought that was the only way I would find a wedding band to make an overall set that I liked.

I ultimately decided to get the thinnest band on the market with RBs (you can see my SMTR thread for my wedding set here). For me, I decided I had to accessorize the asscher, rather than find something that matched it, in order to accentuate it. My problem with all the step-cut bands I could get was that they would ultimately be too chunky--even 2 mm took away from my solitaire in my eye. Your center stone is bigger than mine and your e-ring band is 3xs as wide as mine, so this might not be your solution. But, I offer the store only as a tale that you might be blaming sparkles where size is the real problem, if that makes sense. The best solution to let an asscher have the spotlight, IMO, is either a metal band or a band with minimal sparkle (not super bling or a support cast of step-cuts).

Have you thought about a plain band? Especially if you are getting a reset (and don''t, unless you want it), it might be best to do this and then hold off, so not to custom order a wedding band for this ring only to have it not fit with the new setting. Or, get the reset sooner rather than later to not have to get another wedding band.

I am sure that any vendor would make the ring you decide you want in YG. I also don''t think the platinum will be a problem, as a lot of YG rings have white-metal prongs. But, I would try some on step cut bands and make sure that it really is the look you are craving. Good luck.

Thank you both for your help. I''m sorry its taken so long to respond as I''m still trying to get the hang of this. Katamari, I''ve gotta tell you, I''ve been all over the BWW forum and I am in love w/ your wedding and reception, looks like a sweet wedding and a great bash!

So, here is the bad news, have as yet to figure out how to post pics of my ring, but when I do, I will. My dig camera is so old I don''t think it even has a macro setting.

Here is the good news, went to dimend scaasi, this time for my ring, not his AND, I''ve found this:

http://www.dimendscaasi.com/engagement/asscher/pages/asscher6D.asp

They are making it in 18K YELLOW gold w/ the diamonds in a white gold shank. AND, d/t an advertising error, I got a HUGE discount on his ring and so we could afford the bling in mine. I went w/ the .75 carat rather than 1 carat (he thought to go bigger) b/c then you see some of the yellow gold on the sides carry over to the top and it matches better. It is teeny, so it makes MY ering diamond look bigger and it has a tiny little bit of sparkle- but yet, understated and classy and not forceful to the eyes of others (I heart asschers!), so I can wear it without the e-ring, which was the main goal I had in the first place. And I agree w/ you Katamari, I think I might look into a tiny 2mm YG band for later b/c I can wear it w/ the band or/and w/ the e-ring.

He''s picking them up on Monday. I can''t figure out if I am more excited to see HIS wedding ring (brushed YG, flat corners and of course I had to put asschers in so they are matchy-matchy) or mine. It''ll be a long weekend...

It''s going to look stunning, can''t wait to see it.

To post pics you just need to make sure the picture is smaller than 100kb in size and has a unique name and then you click attach file, then browse your files and upload.

Good luck!
