Hey guys! I''m a new member here and need some help on buying an asscher. They seem to be some of the hardest stones to buy online....hard to pick I mean. I have a budget for the diamond or around $2500 but would prefer it be less. Here are some stones I like on James Allen. Any thoughts? I know that VS1 and VS2 are perfectly fine but these are just ones I''ve found that interest me. Thanks.

.76 Ct I-IF Ideal

.71 Ct. I-VS1 Ideal

.71 Ct I-VVS2 Ideal

.71 Ct G-VS1 Ideal

I would go with the G/vs1 myself.
Get an IS image and the crown height to double check it but put it on hold first so it don't get snagged if your interested in it.

If I wanted to keep it closer to 2k is the I-VS1 a good option. Or did you notice something that you didn't like in it?

Also I have around 3k to spend total for the engagement ring, how much of that should I put towards the diamond? Obviously this is an opinion thing, but I have found some acceptable settings around $500.

Its hard for me to look at them an tell which asschers look good honestly lol. The I-VS1 appeals to me more b/c of the smaller windmills.

Oh yeah and how do I put a diamond on reserve?

As an owner of an Asscher (a .71 G, VVS2, actually), and not being very colour sensitive with other shapes like RBs, I wouldn't go below an H in a step cut, personally.

Also, my suggestion is to put as much of your budget as possible toward the diamond, and purchase from a company like James Allen with a full upgrade policy, just in case.

This .72 G VS2 one has quite wide corners - I'd defer to Strm on whether the cut is good enough, but it's over 5 mm, which is nice. And the price is definitely attractive.

It isn''t as well cut as the other 2.
A tad dark center which I will cover in my p3 angle article that is coming soon but is too long for a post.
Also I color is marginal for a lot of people in a step cut, they will see the color.
JA has several settings that will put you in the 3k range with the G/vs1.

Thanks strmrdr! I requested all available info. Now we''ll just wait and see what happens.

How do I put a diamond on reserve at JA?

contact them either by email. or phone in the morning and ask.
I don''t see it on the website but do know they have done so for several people.

Here is another stone. Its a bit larger....just wondering if it looks good to you. I''ll post the specs later...seems like they''re getting snatched up like hotcakes so I''m a bit hesitant bout posting a link just yet.

need an IS image of that one.
looks like some leakage on the p3 facets but cant tell if its bad enough to matter. The IS will tell the story.

How''s it look?
