Asscher gurus...need your help!

Hey everyone,

I''m a newbie to this board, and have been lurking for a while but finally decided to post. I''m shopping around right now for an engagement ring and thought that my girl would like an asscher. I started looking a couple weeks ago and I had my eye on some royal asschers. I saw some pics of a few that were available, and although they were gorgeous, I wasn''t sure I could justify the premium over a generic. So, I started looking for generics that had some of the qualities of an RA without the hefty price tag.

I found a couple that might be good candidates, but wanted to get your take on them to see if they are worth getting shipped out to see in person. Any help would be really really appreciated!

I prefer the look of #2 --and it''s a bit larger to show off the steps but I am no expert....

Sadly, they both look dark under the table, to me.

I''m sure Strm will be in here with his expert advice shortly. ;)
 
need some better pictures can you get an aset image or better pictures?
Those pics aren''t good enough to decide if they are worth having sent to you.
Also need the crown height.
 
I thought they looked a little dark too, but thought it might have been the pictures. I already requested some additional pictures earlier today because I wasn''t sure about them from these pics. I also requested idealscope pics and megascope analysis, but not sure if I''ll get them. I''ll see if they can get aset images too.
 
Hmmmm...not sure if I''ll be able to get any more info on these, but I''ll keep trying. Don''t know why, but the vendor says they are limiting the number of IS requests per customer. Strange.

I did find a few more that might work though. What do you all think of these? If there are 1 or 2 out of all these (including the ones I posted earlier) that you guys think stands out, please let me know and I''ll put in an IS request, or maybe even get them shipped out so I can see them in person. I just wish things were easier when shopping around for asschers. They are so tough to judge without actually seeing them.

I know next to nothing about Asschers, but my eyes tell me the third one is the most visually appealing. It seems to be less dark in the center than the other two, and the windmills look nice.

ETA: When I say third, I mean Stone #5, the third one on your last post.
 
3 is hiding a lot of weight

5 has potential but its deep.
How does the price compare to 3?

strmdr, yeah I had considered that one. I looks like a good one, but I like the look of asschers with deeper cut corners and wider windmills.

Anyone come across any good ones with wider windmills and deep cut corners?

By the way, how do I interpret ASET images?

Now a brief threadjack:

Storm: I am trying to learn how to interpret ASET images and have a question after reading you (excellent and helpful!) article. This seems to me to look okay from the Idealscope, but dark in the ASET means possibly bad p3s. Am I reading this properly?

The IS isn''t as clear as the ASET but showing the same thing.
The center should be red but it is blackish with streaks of white and just a tiny hint of red.
Part of that is the shallow DOF of the camera blurring the image.

This stone I recall correctly has 5 pavilion steps so its actually bad p5 angles but the result is the same.

When the ASET and IS disagree and it might be a good stone it will look like my images in the article. Red in the IS blue in the ASET.

LoveStoned: Don''t get frustrated. It took us quite some time to find the perfect Asscher. But, when we did, it was breathtaking! I am sure your hunt will end fantastically. And, I will drool over the pics

So I just got the IS for asscher #3 from above. Any thoughts on this?

Also, I noticed some surface graining in the photo of this diamond (see my earlier post above, diamond #3). It looks like a bunch of speckles at the 6:00 position in the photo. Would I be able to notice these without magnification? Would it affect performance at all?
