Hello all,

I''ve been surfing the forums on Asschers and found a lot of good info. A local (and very well recommended) jewelry store in Cincinnati ordered an Asscher in for me and I was wondering if the price seemed in line to you:

Generic Asscher Cut (although it has more of the octagonal shape than most I''ve seen.)

$3,850 (haven''t haggled yet)
E
VS1
0.82 Carat
5.14x5.13x3.59
Table 62
Depth 70
Polish EX
Symm VG
Girdle Thk to VThk
Culet and Flor None

The stone looked GREAT.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
M

PS: it''s GIA Cert.

strmrdr,

Thanks for the replies. I like the more octagonal cut of the 0.92 Carat G color but the color scares me as I viewed an I-Asscher and could definitely see a tint. Is the difference between an E and G significant? The setting will be platinum.

From what I can tell the first stone you linked (0.80 carat E VS2) is pretty much equivalent to the stone I posted i.e. the better table/depth in the 0.80 you posted is most likely offset by the better clarity (VS1) of the stone I posted. That being said, if I could haggle 300-400 off the price of the stone I posted, would it be a buy in your opinion?

A little backround info, my soon to be is about 5''3" and 100lbs. Ring size about 4.25 to 4.5. We went to a mall jewelry store and tried on RBs (as thats basically all they carried) and a 1 carat looked ridiculous on her little finger. A 3/4 RB looked to be on the upper end of perfect and a 5/8 was on the lower end of perfect. I figured an asscher around 0.82 would be right in the middle?

faace up the difference between an e and g asscher would be slight someone that is color sesitive might be able to tell the difference side by side.
G is very white and will not look yellow.

good patterns?
did it speak to you?

Id have to see pictures before id say buy or not.

for what it''s worth -
i purchased a .86 G IF asscher from james allen and its as white as anything i''ve ever seen... now mounted in platinum and looks stunning. look for a smaller table and higher crown and it will sparkle like crazy and look great!

for me - G color was perfect in a very well cut stone and the IF was very much worth it! others will disagree about the IF though.

have the people at james allan take a look for you - they''re great and very willing to work with you!

Thanks for the input strm and efm. I''m going to take a look at the stone again today or tomorrow. The first time I saw it I thought it was AMAZING, but now I''m slightly more educated so I''ll see if it still speaks to me. If it doesn''t, I''ll see if the jeweler can get in a slightly larger stone, maybe in VS2-F with smaller depth and table.

Any suggestions on setting? I''ve been eyeing this setting, but with only 4-5 diamonds on either side. This setting is 2.8 tapered to 2.4, but is 2.8 too thick? I don''t want it to detract from the center stone:

Thanks Again!!!
