I am looking at a Royal Asscher diamond and it looks pretty good. But I noticed that the GIA report date is 2001. I believe it is a new (unused) diamond so does it matter? I know that the availability of these types of stones are more limited, but will it give me any room to negotiate on the price (which would be great!)? Will there be the same type of markup as a more recently dated GIA stone? Thanks in advance. :)

not a huge problem
No price break

Is there a reason why a gia report can be older? 7 years seems like an awfully long time. How often does a stone just sit in a vendor''s inventory?

strmrdr...it seems like you are very knowledgeable about asschers. Are there certain specs to look for that are not on the gia report? I don''t think the gia gives that much detail. But can you really go wrong with any royal asscher? Thanks!

yea 7 years is a while but then again RA has a large premium too so its plausible.
If your concerned have it sent to an independent appraiser for a check up.

All of the RA''s iv seen have been nice diamonds.

Thanks so much for the input. :)

One other question. With the following specs, is 25K a fair price?

2.3, G, VS1
depth-68.1%
table-54%
girdle-medium
culet-vs
polish-vg
symmetry-vg
flo-none
