Hi everyone. My girlfriend has decided on an asscher, and I have reserved 2 which I will get to see in person this weekend. Any chance the experts can weigh in? Info is below:

1st stone (2 different entries, same stone):

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4544

2nd stone:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4542/

The first one looks very nice, although the windmills seem a little narrow, more of a square look than octagonal but that is ok. Not sure if it''s the photo, but the 2nd one''s windmills don''t seem to meet at the center and it just looks a bit off?

Thanks in advance for your help!

#1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I personally thinks its awesome. I can''t find anything wrong with it and the proportions are perfect in my eyes.

#2....it looks off, I agree with you.

BTW...I''ve seen a lot of asschers in my time here and the true octoganal look is hard to come by. RA''s on the other hand always seem to have this. I know there is an explanation, I just don''t remember it off hand. Also, I have not seen a lot of asschers this size in inventory latley that are worth looking at. Number one looks great to me but best off waiting for an expert to give you their opinion. Good luck.

thanks em1

Ditto Emeraldlover, No. 1 looks beautiful!! Hopefully Storm will chime in soon!

The first one is one of my favorites, and a kicken asscher.

Ditto - it's like you almost can't buy an asscher around here without the kickin approval

I think this was in-house before, and then sent back to the cutter. Wondered why, so good to get the strmrdr approval!!

It is a really expensive stone, however. Would be nice to see a kicken 2ct H or G VS1 as well to compare on looks vs. price. I guess the supply of stellar 2ct asschers is not high though?

Strmrdr, do you agree that the 2nd stone is less than stellar? How would you judge it?

2nd one is too deep for the table size in my opinion.
If an asscher has a depth of 74% it better have a table close to 50% and a crown height of 18+ to be worth considering in my opinion.

On the plus side the crown height is 20% and its not too bad.
So the depth is in the right place but a smaller table would be my preference.

Sorry for all the questions strmrdr, but I have a few more if you are willing!

1) would you call a stone where the windmills don''t meet at the center point an asscher? (like I think the 2nd)

2) what''s the chance / time frame for finding a 2ct asscher as kicken at the 1st in a G or H color? In your opinion, is the supply too tight now to expect to find this in a reasonable time period (say a month)?

Thanks, you are the best!

1: squarish emerald rather than asscher, its not a bad thing if done well.
2: Jon can answer that better than I can but I do know supply is tight in the 2ct range. My gut feeling is that supply is too tight unless some new ones are about to hit the market and you might get lucky. Talk to Jon.

Ok, thanks everyone! It''s pushing against my spending limit, but if it looks as good in person I may have to go for it!! Likely go for an x-prong type setting, and will try to post pics after all is said and done...

I understand the spending limit dilema. I had a good feeling that the stone in question was priced more than the other one. Like I said, not a lot in inventory in that size right now. I ran into a similar situation when searching for my emerald. Best to go with something that you like rather than kick yourself for it later. IMHO.
