Hello,

new to the forum. Looking forward to some good advice.

I have been shopping for a diamond for awhile now and my heart has been set on princess cuts. But then recently, I have been introduced to asscher cuts and now I''m not certain which square cut diamond to buy. I''m still leaning more towards princess cut but I would like be informed more about asscher.

Can some asscher "specialists" give me some reasons why I should buy an asscher cut diamond?

Let me hear your asscher diamond sales pitch.

thanks

I fell in love with Asschers when I first started looking, and luckily my now fiance fell in love with them as well.
I loved the distinct windmills and steps, and the very orderly look of them.
That did all change once it was set and on April''s finger as now all I can see is SPARKLE!!! I honestly did not really expect it to perform the way it does. From a short distance it is hard to see windmills and the distinct step pattern as the light refracting from it makes it quite hard to focus on it. In the sunlight you can forget about it, it honestly looks like a glowing disco ball.
Pictures are great to get an idea of how the stone will perform, but they have a personality all their own you can only see in person (so basically if like an assscher based on pics, it will BLOW YOU AWAY in real life).

BTW: Attached is a link, where you can see a few pictures of what I am talking about. The top two pictures look nothing like the third one:

Give me some reasons why I should buy an asscher cut diamond?

If you need someone to "sell" you on it you DEF DEF SHOULDN'T BUY ONE. I have an Asscher ering. But I wouldn't if ANY other stone cut had spoken to me the way this one does.

There is NO good reason to get an Asscher besides IRRATIONALLY LOVING THEM.

* they face up smaller than other stones
* they need to be whiter & clearer & more perfect because all flaws show
* they need to be kept exceptionally clean or they don't "perform" well
* very hard to find flattering settings
* no one knows what they are, will call 'em "Princesses" anyway
* c'mon - does anyone really want to keep saying "ASScher the rest of their life?

Did I sell ya?

DITTO! DOUBLE DITTO!

I have an asscher-- a well cut asscher that performs well (when clean). I love it because it''s the diamond my fiance chose for me. But for all of the reasons above... I would exchange it in a heartbeat for a different cut if I didn''t have sentimental reasons for keeping it.

Also there are many choices for those who love squares. Personally, I''d take a square cushion over an asscher or a princess (under 2 carats) anyday. Or a flanders. Or a juliet. But square cushions are my favorite.

Yep, it will definitely drive you mad when people say "Wow, that''s a lovely princess." And you respond, "It''s not a princess, it''s an Asscher." And they say, "Well, whatever! It looks exactly the same anyway!" in an offended manner. Happened to me countless times. Now, I just smile and say thanks.

Can I get back on the card list if I say (honestly) that asschers over two carats are one of my favorites... and that they are my first choice at the 3+ carat range???

Yeah... just read through his site... and it''s a 600 to 1000 dollar fee for the development work. SO... I''m thinking there is no chance that the setting costing less that 3500.

I gotta agree with Deco and Gypsy...the first time I saw an asscher I KNEW it was my favorite cut of diamond and that I just had to have one for my engagement ring...folks either love them or they don''t...not sure how to convince you...

It''s great to see Asscher lovers! The fun and challenge begins with the customization of a setting. The uniqueness of each Asscher lends itself to the uniqueness of a custom setting. It''s an opportunity to create a "one of a kind" masterpiece.
