Hi: I am new to the forum. I am looking for an asscher cut 1.30-1.50 ct, with F or better color, and VS2 or better. I want an excellent or ideal cut, needs to be perfect square (.99-1.04) Budget from $10,000 - $12,000. I have found the following from two different jewlers:

1.48 ct
F, VS2
Pol: very good
Sym: good
Flr: faint
price: 10,800

1.55 ct
D, VS1
Pol: very good
Sym: very good
Flr: none
price: 12,900
Note: this one is out of the budget, but I really like the D color.

I want to get a soltaire setting in platinum, costing another $1,000. Are these good prices, or should I keep looking? Thanks!

I don''t understand the "Cut" part of the 4Cs. Is polish and symmerty part of the "Cut" rating? I want the Cut to be excellent or at least very good. All of these asscher cuts are GIA.

thanks!

unless shopping in person stick to vg/vg polish sym or better.
We need good pictures and crown height to tell you anything about those stones.
There is a farly hefty premium for well cut asschers so when you find one that is less there is usualy a reason for it.

Here are the measurements that I have:

1.48ct: 6.35x6.30x4.26 - thick to ex thick. I have seen this diamond in person, and all the flaws are on the bottom of the diamond.

1.55: 6.33x6.31x??? - don''t have any other information.

thanks!

how where the patterns?
windmills?
fire?
outline?
center light return against a dark background?
Side profile did the crown look high or flat?
Did it make your heart sing?

There is no "cut" grading for asschers, though having EX/EX for polish and symmetry in theory means that more attention was paid to the cut. Asschers are stones you have to see with your eyes, though in my opinion there are certain depth and table % numbers that would rule a stone out for me. Do you have any photos?

Also, are you open to buying online? GOG creates fantastic videos in different lighting situtions--they have some beautiful asschers.

I think the prices are high for the following reasons:

1. If you use the pricescope search tool at the top of the page, asschers from 1.4 to 1.5 (F,VS2) are about 8 - 10K. Granted, none of them are ex/ex, but neither are the ones you are looking at.

2. When I was looking at stones, I called in several to different jewelers with basically the same parameters. I didn''t want anything above and F and knew I needed to stay under VS2 in clarity. I don''t think any of the stones we called in that were 1.5 carats or under were over $10k. Granted, this was 1.5 years ago, so prices have probably gone up a little.

3. I ended up getting a 1.55 F,VS2 Ex/Ex square emerald for a couple of thousand below your budget from a B&M after a lot of negotiation.

If you love one of these stones, then I would definitely negotiate. If you don''t love either, then I''d suggest calling GOG.

The 1.48 was nice. I don''t know about the pattern. Is the faint flr. something i should be concern about? I heard I should get one with none. I wish the symmetry was very good.

Can you get pics for us??

If it were me, I''d call GOG on Tuesday, see what they have. I bought my asscher from them.

Thanks for the quick and informative response. I think agree with your comments.

I don''t have any pictures.

o get you srtarted on patterns here are some computer generated asschers showing a few of the different possible patterns.
The important part is light return center, complete and eye even patterns, you like the patterns it shows, 10 mile deep look.

Faint fluoro will have no effect. I would have liked a stone with fluoro, but none was available. My stone has faint, but I can''t even make out a trace of fluoro.
