Hello! I am very interested in getting an asscher cut diamond. I have read through some posts that date back a few years so I thought I would start a new thread with hopes of finding new participation. I would like to know what I must absolutely look for when purchasing an asscher cut diamond?? I''ve read so many different things but I want it given to me straight...what clarity is a must, color, cutlet, girdle, depth, table, windmills?? Is it a no no to buy online without seeing in person?? They are so stunning I would hate to be disappointed!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...I think I have come to the right place! :)

You have to get pictures to buy online, video is nice also.

In general you want to look for:
Square 1.04 or under
table: 65 and under
depth: under 70 unless it has a super high crown and small table.
Crown height: well over 10%
sym/polish in general vg/vg sometimes good can be ok but if having a diamond called in it is not a good sign, in stock where the vendor can look at it and get pictures they are worth considering.
girdle: med or thicker and only V-thick if the spread is reasonable.

The rest is all pictures.

I tried on a royal asscher this past weekend...stunning! If it is not a royal asscher, does the certificate state "square emerald"?

Purchasing an asscher cut, specifically, from blue nile or a site without pictures is a bad idea? Each asscher looks so different I dont know that it would be worth the savings. I am having a hard time finding stores that carry quality asschers.

Thanks,
Amanda

Thanks,

The term Royal Asscher pertains to the branded cut, often you will see terms on the grading report for square emerald cut for ' generic' Asschers, not sure if this is the case for RA's.

In my opinion and I know I speak for storm too, purchasing an Asscher or indeed any fancy shape without detailed images is not a good idea, you are really buying blind in doing so and it is a gamble whether you will have a properly cut and beautiful Asscher when you open the box...

If you want to buy online then some of the vendors provide photos and ASET images, plus Sarin or Helium scans to give detailed measurements of the stone.

If they don't have anything to suit you at the moment they might be able to source you a well cut Asscher.

thousands of people have bought asschers online here at PS.
The key is good photos and video helps also.
No photos no sale because buying them blind is a very bad idea.

I bought an asscher from goodoldgold that I am in love with.
Their service before, during and after the sale were excellent.
They seem to know how to pick good asschers and which cutters cut good ones.
I also bought rounds from Whiteflash and they also have excellent service.

Color and clarity are comfort zone things.
Personally, I go for high grades that many people feel are a waste of money.

I think most people just don't want to see any inclusions with the naked eye, which means they are looking in the SI1 SI2 range for most cuts with facets that are smaller and higher in number.
The larger facets of asschers and emerald cuts make it easier to notice inclusions and body color.

For this reason many asscher buyers like to keep the color up to maybe G or H or above.
But I will add that some people don't mind and even like seeing warmer colors in diamonds; lucky for them since they can get a larger stone for the same budget.
Clarity for asschers - eye clean will be at least VS2 or VS1 depending on the inclusion and your eyesight.

Note, all grades in my post are based on standards from the more respected gem labs like GIA and AGS.
Some other labs like EGL or IGI have softer standards, which is one reason I do not support them with my dollars.

Kenny--is that the asscher you bought in your profile pic?? I would love to see more pictures!!! I just can''t get enough pics online!! Please share! I have really enjoyed viewing the asschers on JamesAllen...I saw one last week but it got snatched up quickly.

I have noticed the size of the windmills make a HUGE difference in what I like...all look so different!

This isn''t helping my horrible indecisive personality...ohh the choices!

I am looking in the 8-10,000 range but dont want to settle on quality or size...this isn''t working for me so far. I need to give direction to my loving boyfriend or else he will just take what a jeweler talks him in to...BLAH!

I do not profess to be an expert asscher shopper.
Before I bought it my asscher was under consideration by another PS member and it generated a lot of buzz.
If interested you could do a search for its specs here.
She decided against it because of the medium blue fluorescence, which I happen to love.
I grabbed it when Strmrdr said it was one of the best asschers he had ever seen and even Garry complimented it.

I know finding a good asscher seems mysterious and is a lot of work, but let me tell you it is soooooo worth it!

Three years later I till get hypnotized falling into its hall of mirrors.
At Costco I still walk into people with my shopping cart.

It''s rather difficult to tell from just those GIA report. We''ll need considerably more info to tell if it''s a nice stone. Have you thought about calling some place like GOG and letting them help you find the stone of your dreams? If you''re willing to go down in color, here''s one that''s also larger than your JA and within your price range:

Thanks for the post Hest88. I''ve been checking out GOG website and just shot them an email a little bit ago. They seem to be highly recommended and I am hoping that if I find a diamond I am interested in they will send video too!

ohhh the choices!

So I am really having a hard time finding the right diamond! I look and look and look...at all the different asschers and settings...and suddenly I don''t know what I DO like. I keep going through pictures on google and on here and I can''t seem to get enough...I want to see more!!!

So please...if you are out there...I would love to see your asschers! I especially want to see them on your hand...it helps me to visualize! Spec info would be great too! They seem so mysterious!!

Show them things off!!! They are too beautiful to be kept to yourself!

I know asscher shopping is tough.

Here's a thread from our Show Me The Ring forum with lot of asschers, and emerald cuts.

Click

Wouldn't it be cool if every asscher in this thread was accompanied by all the specs and angles of the facets, and were somehow all photographed in the same lighting?
We could zero in on what angles are better.

It would be like a scientific study because the sample size is probably larger than any other consumer collection of asschers.

It might be ok but no way to tell without images, preferably an ASET and a detailed photo. If a Sarin scan could be obtained also that would be helpful.

See if you can get an ASET image for the second also.

You are so right Kenny!! That would be wonderful!!

I REALLY REALLY like this diamond but would like to hear everyone''s opinion, good or bad. I see that there is something in the very center, but will this be visible to the naked eye? Is it black or is it like a feather or something?? I have requested the papers and will share with you all as soon as I get them. Thoughts???

Amanda, try starting a new thread posting just the info about your diamond, you will get more traffic.

I am no asscher expert but it looks really good in the photo.
