Hello, i am shopping for a Asscher cut diamond and was just wondering,
I have seen on GIA reports both Cut Cornered square step cut and square
emerald cut on the shape and cutting style. Is there any difference
between the two to the normal person. Thanks!!

I'm not an expert but I *think* that GIA calls square emeralds with five pavillion "steps" : Cut-cornered square step cuts .... AND .... square emeralds with FOUR pavillion steps: Square Emerald Cut.

As to the "normal person" ... they'll probably think either of those is a PRINCESS anyway!

SERIOUSLY.

In the nearly a year I've been engaged with a 1.5 ct. Asscher only ONE PERSON (our wedding coordinator actually) has said "OH, an ASSCHER". Many, many, many people have said "What a pretty PRINCESS!".

(As if all "squarish" stones are Princess cuts)

I saw my first Royal Asscher today. The major differences I could see between square emerald cut and the Royal is that there is an extra 4 facets on the pavilion and the pavilion comes to a point instead of a keel line. Much wider cut corners, higher crown and small table. A very pretty stone with a pretty price to go with it.
