If you had your choice of an Ideal cut Asscher with VS or SI clarity would you go with a smaller carat colorless D-G stone or a larger carat I-K stone? I have heard many times that if you''re interested in Asschers it''s best to go look at loose stones, but I was wondering what everyone thought. If you have any pics that might give me a better example of what an Asscher stone''s color in D-G or I-K might look like please share! Thank you.

How big are we talking here? I''d go down to an H probably...but unless it was smallish (maybe less than 1.5 carats) I probably wouldn''t go down further. But that''s just me.

Oh sorry, I should''ve specificied! I am talking anywhere from .50 to 1.5 ct. Thanks!

"Ideal cut" Asscher ... according to whom? A vendor? There''s so much debate on what makes asschers even "idealISH" I''d hesitate to assume any stone was "ideal" ... but aside from that ... the step pattern on asschers isn''t really so noticable below a certain point. Personally, under 1ct ... I''d look at a different shape. A one carat Asscher is going to face up like a .50, .60 Round Brilliant. They''re just that deep and have an optical illusion that forces your eye into the center of the stone, rather than the exterior edges, plus they''re just smaller mm. wise.

If you can get to the 1ct mark in your budget (or .90 ish ... whatever) I''d prefer AGS-or-GIA determined "H" color ... possibly stretching to "I" ... must be a VS1 or VS2 at least ... SI asschers really show their flaws IMHO.

Just my personal opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions, decodelighted. I will definitely keep that in mind. I have been looking at diamonds suggested by pricescope recommended online vendors.

My opinion is if you want it to face up white stick to H or higher.
If you want a nice tint go to L-O
The ones in between kinda leave me cold.

In the market myself (1.7-1.8ct) and looking for G or better.
