Hi Everyone

I've made great use of the existing threads to get spooled up on diamond buying education and I think I've found the stone that I want. Everything seems to check out but I could certainly use a sanity check and some help with the Aset view.

GIA Triple X
VS2 (not necessary but nice)
I Color
Medium blue fluorescence
0.95 carat weight
Depth = 62.1%
Crown = 56%
Crown Angle = 35.0 Deg
Pavilion Angle = 40.6 Deg
HCA Score = 0.9
Seller is online but reputable and endorsed by Pricescope
Price is $4000

The only thing I'm not sure about is the ASET view. Maybe it's fine and I just don't know how to interpret the picture. I'm red/green color blind so I'm having a hard time differentiating between the colors. I see a fair amount of what I think is green but that could just be the colorblindness talking. What do you all think? Seem like a good buy? I'll post the ideal scope view as well.

Thanks!
John

Looks generated not photographed is it?

I think you're right. The image is from B2C Jewels' website, and here is their description of their ASET imaging. They have a sample of a good ASET image and a bad ASET image at the link at the bottom of the page.

Aset Images
This software from the AGS uses patent color dispersion techniques to visually display the light reflected and returned from a polished diamond. This angular spectrum tool codes optimum performance in Red, Green and Blue that signifies ‘Most Intense’, ‘Less Intense’ and ‘No Intensity’ areas respectively. In industry norms it is observed that a Diamond ASET (Angular Spectrum Evaluation Tool) image which has Red as the predominant color has the most Brilliance and Fire; however the proportionate distributions of all three colors i.e. Red, Blue and Green are important as it reveals where the light is reflected and returned. Red is the most desired color to have as it tells you that light is reflected from the stone giving brightness and intensity, whereas green indicates that light is usually reflected off nearby objects and is more faint. Black or White areas(Depending on the background color) in an ASET image indicate non-reflected facets in a stone which is referred to as leakage.

Thanks for the affirmation JulieN.

I just spoke with the sales person at BC2 Jewels and he told me the gemologist notes say the diamond is eye clean and face up colorless...as I would expect from a VS2 stone with I color and medium blue fluorescence. Everything looks good but I'm still not sure how to interpret the ASET image. Here's a link to the diamond so you can see a photograph of it as well as hearts and arrows images. It shows unavailable because I put a hold on it.

I had a dream last night that the diamond arrived and it had no sparkle. I'm a 32 year old man and I'm having nightmares that jewelry isn't 'sparkly enough'...haha...strange days. I guess I'm just nervous about making such a large purchase sight unseen.

If anyone has more advice or interpretations of the diamond data please let me know.

Thanks again!
John

Looks good to me! Green isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I'd have pause in considering a stone with too little green. It generally means the stone is doing a better job of collecting light from lower on the horizon (the horizon being the girdle plane).

It looks good, but I'd ask if there are black inclusions. It appears that it might have some under the table.
