Hi everyone! I was hoping I could bother you all for some help with choosing a diamond for an engagement ring.

i have been to a diamond dealer in Chicago that has been very helpful, in addition to working with some online brokers (James Allen and Bc2). I viewed a promising diamond today at the dealer and she forwarded me the attached ASET. It looks pretty good to me. The diamond also has a 1.0 HCA score.

It is:

1.73 CT
I color
Triple X
60.7 depth
58 table
7.74x7.76x4.71
Cost: $13800

Thanks in advance!!

Some other diamonds I am considering are below:

I think the ASET looks great, and if the price is in line with the others, then it should be fine!

Thanks so much! The price is in line with the others, although this diamond would be about 1500 more. I do like the fact that I was able to see it in person, but I am also still waiting on an evaluation from James Allen on two stones.

The aset looks good, but I'm concerned with that black dot by the 8 oclock arrow...did they confirm that it could be covered by a prong, it looks like it can, but there's another one in between the bottom two arrows also. One of those will be showing unless you get an 8 prong...I really like the H&A stone that's AGS 0 from JA that you posted.

That is a very good point. I did not notice that until you mentioned it. I will say that I examined the stone under a loupe and could not even see any inclusions. I will definitely see if we can get a prong to cover the larger black spot.

As far as the H&A stone, I am wary of that as it has a 4.3 HCA score....

That's possible because you didn't know where the inclusions are. Now that you do, you may see nothing but those inclusions from now on. It happens to us on here a lot. You don't notice it till it's pointed out and then it's all you see. Anyways, here's another option. I like this one because the table is small, it faces up pretty white for an I and it looks a lot cleaner than the other stones you have. It's a hair deep and scored a 2.4 on the HCA, but I definitely think it's worth looking into:

OMG that is gorgeous. I'll add that to the JA hold.

Don't forget to also ask for an ideal scope image when you put it on hold. I'm sure it'll be beautiful!

Quite often a colorless crystal inclusion that is not visible to the eye will look black in an ASET photo. This is normally not an issue with the beauty of the diamond, but of course, now that you see these you will want to go back to the jeweler and take a specific look for them.

Actually I wrote the dealer asking about prong location and she wrote me back (without prompting) and stated that it was a colorless crystal inclusion and that it is definitely an eye-clean stone.

Thanks for making me feel better about it!

So I received the evaluation from JA on that suggested 1.81. They said it was eye clean and that the noticeable feather could be pronged. Ive atached the idealscope image to this post.

What is y'alls opinion between this stone and the one i mentioned upthread?

Thanks!!!

The Ideal scope shows partial leakage under the table, usually this is not noticeable to the naked eye, but I prefer the ASET you originally posted.

Thanks so much! Do you think the original diamond is worth the 1500$ more?

What is the clarity grade of the first one? Si2 carries sizeable discount.

It is also an SI2. Both are eye-clean, the JA one is bigger by about .04 MM.

I have seen the first one though, and it is gorgeous, but the JA grabs at me for some reason....
