Has anyone heard any stories about this? Apple has a small tracker available to purchase. It‘s a small disk (probably the size of a nickel) that you can attach to something (luggage, handbag, car). It will tell you the exact location of where the item is on your iPhone. I thought this would be wonderful to put on our furbaby’s collar. Well they are also being used to stalk women. A woman found someone put one in her bag and the stalker was using it trace her every move. They also could be used to stalk someone but putting it on their car. I believe if you have a Iphone you will be notified that there is one of these trackers near you. Apple obviously thought thru that this could used in a nefarious way

Just another thing for young women to be aware of.

@Calliecake My son bought me one..actually two for Christmas..This is so I don’t lose my keys. He didn’t realize I leave my keys in my purse because the door unlocks when I get close to the door.
I read about what happened to the model who was stalked with it. That was so frightening.

it’s scary and sad. i thought it was a great idea until I heard the story about the model. I’m waiting for the day people and children can be chipped. I know many people think this is a bad idea for privacy reasons. I always look at the other side of this and think how quickly police could get to you if you were missing and in a dangerous situation. We live in a crazy world.

I saw something about this recently. It's scary because the devices are so thin that they can be slotted somewhere, like tiny gaps in a car's numerous nooks and crannies. I read a story about someone who had one hidden on her car somewhere, and it was NOT easy to locate the chip.

And presumably, if you don't have an iphone, you would never know.

I think they're quite easy to locate in bags and clothing, but cars.....much worse.

My son said I could put it in my husband’s car after his retirement at the end of the month. This way I could keep track of him. He was only half joking. :snooty:

So many stalkers out there and now they have technology assisting them :(2 glad the stalkers I "know" are cheap and technologically incompetent!!!

I could see the attraction of having them for children, but the thought of criminals using them to stalk women is just horrifying.

I saw the article and thought how scary this could be. I don't even keep my location services on for the phone as I hate to think all the "apps" could know where I have gone. But to think someone could drop this type of thing in your bag, or as others have said, hide it on your car, is truly frightening. I think I'd rather lose my keys or whatever.

cellular trackers can be had for 20 bucks and 15-25 a month for the service that beats these in every way for tracking cars where they can tap into power.
For other uses they have to recharged every few weeks

I have one for my LV purse In case it gets taken.

I’ve got AirTags for the cats and they’re not that super small or thin that you’d not notice one if it was dropped in your bag. Tiles are probably less obvious and easier to hide if you’re thinking consumer-grade tracking tags.
Less consumer-oriented and more into the surveillance area, I am certain there are other trackers which are much easier to hide and stalk someone with.
I’m not saying it’s not awful because it is, but it’s not a uniquely Apple problem.

I just saw something similar on Quora. Someone puts a water bottle on top of your tire, you drive off and it makes an awful racket. You get out to investigate and you're car-jacked.
Per Mr. Car Parts, there's nothing that can happen to your car that's worth your life. Drive until you can pull over to a safe area, doesn't matter what you wreck.

Apple developed a tracker detection app for android phones.

Yes, I gave my daughter's fiance' one as he always loses his keys.
