I have a large collection of antique paintings. Most are 19th century landscapes (French, Belgium, English) but I also have a few portraits. All of them are very traditional; some would say boring lol. American folk portraits are high in demand and this one is my prized possession. It is by far my most valuable painting and I love her!!! I also realize it is not for everyone lol. She does have a creepy vibe.

No one in my family likes her AT ALL. Poor girl gets ridiculed almost daily, even by my kids' friends. It is a running joke. This is my daughter's cover piece for her art portfolio. I may be biased (of course I am!!!) but I think it is really special. The humor and pop art feel are awesome! Definitely putting my daughter down to inherit her!!! 20220819_165959.jpg

Your daughter’s cover is very cool! She is talented. I like her take on the much-maligned painting. My daughter is an artist as well.
Your little girl painting is funny! I can appreciate the skill, but could see why she’s ridiculed. Also appreciate the vintage coach bag on the chair. I have a few in my collection too!

Your collections are divine Gussie. Your daughter’s art reminds me of a bit of a Peter Max vibe. I love her irreverence! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Gussie,

I love your daughter's piece. Your little girl painting is painted in the style of the times. I think it is very much in demand.

Last year I gave my collection to a niece. She in turn brought one painting to England for her sister. They both loved them. I was happy to have someone who appreciates art to give it to.
But I cried when they left my house.

Your daughter looks as if she has talent. My best to her.

Annette

Wow, your daughter is very talented!

And I actually love that painting. I love creepy girl paintings (and birds) LOL! My favorite artist is Mark Ryden and I have this in my dressing room. :twisted2:

@Gussie I love it! Can you post more so we can see more of your art collection? And your daughter is so talented. My daughter is also taking art classses, and it is so fun to watch that talent develop. Right now she is focusing on parts of faces, so she is constantly drawing eyes and lips. She has put the eyes all over one wall in her bedroom and I swear it’s the coolest kind of modern art looking installation.

In recent years, I’ve leaned heavily into abstracts. We have a couple of very large (as in 36” x 72”) paintings that I’m just crazy about. I actually need to get them framed but there have been supply chain disruptions near us and I just haven’t wanted to take them off the wall for long enough. So I’m waiting. This one is the more toned down of the two, and I just love it. The movement. The depth. Sigh.

I also just recently got this smaller nude, and it makes me so happy. It’s in a place where I can see it on all my Zoom meetings. =)2

I love collecting art too. Although my passion is abstract landscapes. Both my daughters are obsessed with drawing and painting. Especially my oldest. She has over 200 sketches stuck to the walls of her bedroom. It looks horrific but I’m a firm believer that a child’s bedroom should be their own and they can make it how they like. So I tolerate her home made posters!

Here are some of my favourite pieces from our collection.

I love everyone’s art!!!

Me and hubby have our “weird art wall”. It is one wall dedicated to the weirdest art we can find. My mother said this drawing “makes her feel uncomfortable.” Perfect, mission accomplished.

The kind of art that I can appreciate are the edible kind, as in fine dining.

@Gussie Nothing I love more than unnerving portraiture! I dig your lil spooky gal. Sadly, I’m too much of a tightwad to own very serious art (yet). I’ve mostly settled for bizarro Etsy prints in incongruously-expensive frames.

My one ~real~ piece is a very large oil painting done by an older (yet well-preserved!) friend. Have admired it since I was a kid, and finally she caved last year and gave it to me. Need to have it cleaned up and reframed!

ETA: I love that wall color!
