I just cannot even.

The hell of it is, it looks really well made! If you're in the market for a ring depicting an enormous, jowley chicken, get to it! Some artisan spent HOURS of his life creating the turkey ring!

That said, I'll be over here, clutching my pearls and fumbling for my smelling salts. I ... just ... WHY?

IT HAS A RUBY JOWL.

Jowl, wattle, whatever. SOLID RUBY WATTLE. That just ain't right.

I'm laughing out loud - oh dear

Obviously commissioned by someone who wished Ben Franklin got his way with the turkey being named the national bird.

"Who's a cute fat little turkey? You're a cute fat little turkey!" I would say if I owned this ring and brought it out once a year for Thanksgiving.

Oh goodness, now I'm LOLing!

AHAHAHHAHA!!! How to wear this ring and not die laughing??? I should show this photo to a friend who told me panthers (in panther rings) look like rabid squirrels. How would she describe this?

Is it just me or does the split shank make the turkey appear to have its hands on its hips?

When I read the title to this thread, I was thinking it was a piece made in Turkey. Yeah. Wasn't expecting this! Either someone lost a bet or it was a dare.

Hey! I bought that! That's my ring!

Wow, now that's a ring!! yikes But the thing is, why in the world would Lang buy it????? I mean I doubt they just found it right, don't they buy everything from an estate or someone looking to get rid of a few pieces? I just can't imagine they have a client come in, show them a few pieces that they are looking to sell and the employee at Lang saying "oh we must add that turkey to our collection!" So weird!

You had me at "turkey."

:wavey: asscher_girl!

ETA notice how the little turkey legs are crossed? Even the turkey is a little sheepish about being depicted on a diamond ring!

That one always makes me laugh. Do you remember the question mark ring they had for a while? It was whimsical but fabulous. This I whimsical and just odd.

However, as I age if I were to acquire a turkey neck, I'd prefer it to be solid rubies please. :)

This is the "upgrade" you use to break the news of your impending divorce.

Next in the collection I want a jack-o-lantern ring with cognac and black diamonds please.

The textured belly make me think it's more of a mid-century modern piece.

Hahaha! You are so right! Sassy little turkey!

Don't you think there is a turkey mogul out there somewhere that has made a fortune and is just looking for the appropriate commemorating bling?!

I'd wear it. I'd wear it and eat thanksgiving turkey with my hands and use that fat sparkly bird to sluice the delicious juices from my own ruby jowls.

/tipsy post.

When do we get Santa?

I have to say, it's not as ugly as I expected it to be, based on the title of the post!! That said, I am most definitely NOT in the market for a turkey ring....

Oh Circe, you made me laugh out loud, very loudly! Poor thing looks humiliated & I can't blame him. Why would Lang buy that, indeed?

If someone gave me that I'd sock 'em. You know, like "sweets for the sweet?" Well......

I can just imagine the bench politics when THAT commission came in.

Senior bench guy: Jesus! Seriously??
Next in line: Good grief, people are just weird, you know? So...who gets this plum job? (rolling eyes)
Senior: New guy over there has been getting a bit testy about doing nothing but polishing all day. How about we
give him this to "prove himself" on?
(evil grins ensue)

That is funny!

Awhile back, Peter Suchy had a largish gold squid pin (brooch) with articulated arms and lots of old-cut diamonds. Can't remember the price, but something like $7-8K. I am fond of cephalopods but couldn't imagine what would posses someone to commission something like that, who would make it, and what the person for whom it was intended thought about it. All I can think is that perhaps creature-themed jewelry was all the rage at some point.

Circe, that you for posting this. Maybe it was for an executive at Purdue. I wonder if the vendor gets serious inquiries about the ring like, are those rubies heated? How many grams of metal in that turkey?

Maybe it was part of an estate lot.

I also wonder who is actually going to pay $4k for a turkey ring when that could get you a nice piece of ANY OTHER KIND OF JEWELRY.

That's exactly what I thought! I *big puffy heart* you, Kismet! :appl:

Heir to the Buterball fortune?

This reminds me of a project DH did for a friend of ours years ago:

The hubby wanted a yellow gold pendant for his wife (no, DH does not normally design jewelry) that said "Buns". That, apparently, was his nickname for her.

Yup. Buns.

So, as a favor, DH sketched it up so the guy could take it to his jeweler. DH pulled down the "B" and pulled down the "S", and the letters kinda met in the middle. You get the idea.

She loved it.
