Are your dogs/cats allowed on your bed?

Ours are not.

Yuck!

They get only one monthly bath . . . they walk outside everywhere so . . . well . . . yuck!

We used to bathe them more often but the vet said once a month is best and bathing more often removes too much of their natural oils.

We DO allow our two dogs onto a certain couch that always has a machine-washable heavy duty cover on it.
Snuggling and cuddling with the little monsters is wonderful.

No. I don't allow the cat or the dog onto our bed. The dog has the loudest snore I've heard from any living creature. It got to the point where DH and I were having disturbed sleep, so she's out!

Our dog is only allowed on furniture that has a special cover. We have one for the sofa and one for our bed. He will not jump up if the cover is not there (when I am washing them). He has his own bed that he sleeps in at night. When the light goes off we say "go to bed" and he does. Sometimes he growls when we say it and looks back at us before he settles down for the night.

Kenny, my dog only gets bathed about every 4-6 weeks. I do clean his paws when he comes in from the outside with baby wipes . That way hopefully I remove all the gross stuff and make sure there are no burrs or cinders stuck in there. He is so good that he just stands there and raises his paw for me to clean.

My cat sleeps with my son.
He is squeaky clean and has never been outside.

heck no!!! my dogs are big, dirty and pass gas way too much to even be allowed in my room. i adore them, but my bed is MINE!

DH wouldn't mind, but I do, so no. Especially pets that go outside like our dog. Ugh. I also wish he wouldn't go on the couches, but DH lets him so I can't win.

My cat comes on my bed but she usually sleeps on her cat scratching post. She doesnt go outside or anything so it doesnt bother me... except for the fur... yuck but she is too cute to deny!

Our dog is spoiled and sleeps with us every night. Best cuddler ever!

I think you started the thread with a negative supposition Kenny, and you are therefore more likely to hear from those who feel the same.

Yes, our 2 chihuahua's sleep with us, under the covers even. The shame, the horror, the yuck, omg! :rodent: They get bathed once a week and our sheets are changed more often than that. I'm not the least bit afraid of the yuck factor, and since no one here will be joining me in my bed, I don't care!

Ditto, my cat gets hair ALL OVER my comforter. Even though I brush her daily. I occasionally use a sticky lint roller across my whole bed to get all that hair off. My cat is very shy though and really only likes to pet by people who are sitting or laying down so if I didn't allow her on my bed, I'd never see her.

Yeah, they are. But on top of the comforter, not between the sheets. It's a waterbed, so the Boxer doesn't like the instability of it much. She'll get up there once in a while though. But my little guy is a total bed dog.

Have you ever tried to keep cats off somewhere they want to be?!?!?

But yes, my cats sleep with me. They are wonderfully cozy and adorable. I find they do their best snuggling after boyfriend leaves for work when they have me all to themselves.

Our cats are allowed on the bed. Not sure I would be able to keep them off. If I try to lock them out of my bedroom the male body slams the door until I open it. Not worth the fight.

We frequently have at least one of our three pets spend part of the night in bed with us.

I actually would prefer the dog not be in there at all (because he steals the blankets from me) but we can't do much to prevent it while we are asleep!

The cats I don't mind at all though, they don't use up nearly as much space! And they are good for warmth in the winter.

I have 2 maltese dogs, and they sleep on my bed. they are small, ( 4-5 lbs) and dont require much space. Love those little guys they are just adorable balls of white fluff!! :sun:

Good point Lyra.
Many people tend to clump together with others with similar views, and stay out of a conversation where they may perceive their views are not welcome.

Many are relieved they they are "normal" because they are similar to the large group.
I like to to break that mould.
Sometimes I relish being different and will often post a view that does not go along with the crowd.

Just because I hold an opinion and "support" it does not mean I feel it applies to anyone but me.

AFAIC everyone is welcome in every conversation.
The more diverse the conversation the better.
Being in a larger or smaller group is not related to being right or wrong.

Back when we had two cats, DH was adamant that they were never allowed in the bedroom b/c he didn't want the bed or his suits covered in fur. Then, when we were down to one cat, he felt bad leaving him locked out of the bedroom all night so now he sleeps with us.

The cat, Pablo, usually only hogs my side of the bed which is probably why DH doesn't have a problem with him sleeping with us. He's generally above the covers but from time to time he'll sit and paw at the blankets until one of us lifts them up for him to tunnel into.

Lately, I've been putting an empty shoebox on our dresser for him to sleep in. He's too big for it but he still shoehorns himself into it at night and sleeps for hours. Looks horribly uncomfortable to me but if there's a cardboard box in the house, Pablo is sleeping in it.

My cat visits me in bed right before bedtime for a snuggle or pet, but she isn't allowed to sleep there and she knows it. She then gets down and goes in her own bed.

I used to do this too and then I decided to invest in a hand held vacuum that has an attachement for pet hair(has bristles). Works like a charm on comforters and couches!

I agree Kenny. ;))

Yes, she sleeps with us. She has her own pillow that she put her head on and sleeps on like a human being.

I agree...

Absolutely! Both of them. Wouldn't have it any other way! And my dogs are bathed maybe once a season... they sleep near our feet, under all the covers. The dogs smell better than our feet and our feet are allowed on the bed. :D lol

The dogs actually have pretty much free range of the house when we're home. They're on furniture, under furniture (never in the furniture though), under blankets, in our laps, on the floor, in the window sills. Sure they may be spoiled rotten, but they're cute...

I agree...

Lots of people are joining in to say their furbabies are welcome in their bed.

Stating your opinion doesn't mean others have to share it.
Where does this assumption come from? Gee.

If the OP stated her dog/cat shared their bed I'd be equally likely to state that mine don't.
I don't need people to agree with me.
Agreement means nothing.
Everyone's opinion is equally valid.

Interesting because I really really love the way my dog smells too!

Threadjacking a bit Kenny but...I'm coming to your neck of the woods verrrry soon! I'm excited.

Kenny, how can you say no to your cute pups? I wouldn't be able to resist.

We have two cats and both pretty much have the run of our house. They usually follow me to bed and sleep right next to me. The only time it bothers me to have them in bed is very early in the morning (anywhere from 4-6AM) when they want to be fed. One of our cats is extremely persistent, and if I don't get up when she begins to meow, she proceeds to lick my face. It's lovely to be woken up that way. :nono:

I started with a cat--and tried very hard to keep her off the bed. Tried to close the bedroom door--she scratched at the door. Tried to get her a nice bed--she preferred mine. Tried to to squirt her with a water when she got on the bed--she didn't care. Now she sleeps at the end of the bed on top of a small blanket.

The dog is another story--much harder to accommodate than the cat. He is tiny(less than 7lbs) and sleeps under the covers by our legs. I think it's disgusting and I dislike it. SO thinks it's perfectly acceptable. I've tried getting him nice beds, heated beds, squirting him with water, closing the door, etc. No luck. I gave in. When SO goes on travel though... the dog is off of the bed... in the crate.

They are very strictly disciplined.
Sometimes my SO will place one of their cushions on top of a box next to the bed so they are at the same level while he watches TV.
She knows she's not allowed onto the bed but over time Kizzy will gradually inch her way onto the human bed, to cuddle.

It's so cute.

Well, yes, they are allowed on the beds. I put a sheet over them during the day to capture all the hair. My dog has actually taken over my old twin bed in my childhood room, she sleeps there all day long. At night, she'll lay on my current bed until I go to get in, then she goes into her own giant slumber nest (it's like 48 inches across). Our other dog stays in my parents room in his own nest at night. I would let my dog sleep with me, but she jumps whenever I move my feet.
They go all over the couches in our family room, they're leather and get vacuumed a lot. My dog sits on them like a person when the cocktail hour rolls around.

At my boyfriend's house, his mini doxie has stairs to get into the bed. And he sleeps under the covers. I swear I get kicked and scratched in the middle of the night. He sleeps right between the two of us and I've woken up with his head on my pillow. I hate it. I take a lint roller to the bed anytime I'm staying there. I change the sheets at least once a week. Before me my BF had maybe one pair of sheets, now he's got 3. I keep telling him when we move in together things are going to change or I'm going to have my own bed

Edit: My dogs get weekly baths in the summer and twice weekly the rest of the year. Or more often if they happen to roll in something smelly :nono:
