Are you OK with getting COVID? Meaning, you are OK with getting it, if it means you can go out and about and live a "normal" life?

That’s a hard no from me. We’re all pandemic weary but there is nothing “normal” in a global pandemic!
I won’t get into the vaccine debate because imo there is no debate. The more people that contract Covid and end up hospitalized, the more strain on our healthcare workers, hospital systems and ultimately all of us. We will eventually get through this chapter.

NO!

nope
im terrified of bringing it home to Gary who has risk factors and a cronic lung disease (no, he has never been a smoker)
we are double vaxed and will get the boster when its due
i dont trust other people to keep us safe. not family, not anyone

with all these different strains going around, and some unfortunate people have even had covid twice, im not keen at all

We have already all had it and been exposed multiple times afterwards without getting sick again. Whether that is luck or antibodies, no idea but DH has worked the entire time and the kids have been back in school since September.

That said, I wouldn’t want it again just like I wouldn’t want to be sick with anything else. I wasn’t happy when DH brought it home initially but in the long term, I’m glad we all recovered without long term effects and had some immunity either in the short or long term.

I mean, what is “ok” here? Is the only condition that I can be okay with it, provided I get to live a “normal” life?

I voted that I am okay with it, because I assume I will get it if I haven’t already had it. I also assume that coronaviruses are going to be around for the foreseeable future, much like influenza. We missed our chance of eradicating it within the first few months I’m guessing.

What makes me nervous is exposing people who are immunocompromised or unable to be vaccinated. So, while I’m not cavalier about it and intend on getting a booster and wearing a mask indoors as recommended, I think it just will be a part of normal life.

I think it just will be a part of normal life.

Yes, you are right. It will become endemic and a part of normal life like the strains of seasonal influenza eventually, so science tells us. Millions will have died before that happens though.

My daughter had a patient a couple of days ago. A 29 year old woman at 30 weeks pregnant. She was critical but stable on high flow oxygen possibly headed for ECMO. She was fully vaccinated, not yet boosted but had an appointment for it. Unfortunately she got a breakthrough case. I hope she and her baby will be ok. No, the risk of getting and spreading outweighs anything else for me.

Most of my friends are now OK with getting it, as they are over the COVID situation. They are vaccinated, boosted, and wear masks, but they want to live their life and therefore are OK with the consequence of getting it.

I'm still isolating, it's so hard...I'm over it too, but I don't want to get COVID.

Yes and No.

I'm fully vaccinated. I plan to get boosters, have my child vaccinated, wear masks indoors or at crowded outdoors festivals. I only have fully vaccinated people in my home.

However I don't plan to live in a bunker for the rest of my days either. Looking at the trajectory of the world there is no way Covid is going away. I can only do what I deem is sensible and try to live a reasonably satisfying life.

I'm not an Armageddon kind of gal. I can't just survive in a bunker. I'd rather end it all if it came to that!

I’m glad you all recovered well @YadaYadaYada. My double vaxxed friends got it, but were relatively OK and have had no long lasting effects thank goodness.

I would not be OK with getting it, but having been through 3 major lockdowns and doing everything we could to stay safe, we are now double vaxxed and boostered, so hopefully, if we did get it, it wouldn’t be too bad.

I voted "yes" on the understanding that the symptoms will be mild without the need for hospitalisation, quick to regain my sense of taste and small, and without long Covid; as I shall have whatever vaccines/boosters that are offered to me.

DK :))

If, dk168 stated above, I could choose the outcome (and the severity of infection) to be exceedingly mild, with zero aftereffects, then I might possibly be okay with it...Might.

When it first emerged… This Thing was playing Russian Roulette with us - we didn’t know how it was contracted, we didn’t have any idea how we might be affected if we contracted it… I was terrified. Much more for my husband and my parents than myself.

Now - I’m vaccinated and I’ve got my booster. And my family and friends and coworkers have too. We know a lot more about it, and the various simple measures we can take to minimize our risk. I’m still being careful but no, I’m definitely not afraid in that bone-deep near-panic way that I once was.

I don’t think that means I’m “okay with getting it” though!!

No. Is this a joke or a troll...?

I am also not OK with getting hit by a car or getting any type of cancer, in case there will be polls for these, too.

Long COVID is terrible and not uncommon -- even for folks who have been vaccinated and/or have relatively mild reaction to the virus. There are many long-term post-viral syndromes -- we saw this with H1N1. Affected a loved one at her athletic peak a decade+ ago and I am still not sure if she is 100%.

I go out and have flown and have been in some crowds. But I am totally not OK with getting COVID -- even if I don't know I have it (see above).

EDIT: I will venture that anyone who is "OK" with getting COVID does not understand COVID, medically. Maybe "Facebook-understands" COVID, but not medically. :roll2: There is a difference.

Nope, you can still get it more than once. I don’t want it at all.

I don't WANT to get it but if I do I do. My work exposure is EXTREME right now, one of my sites just shut down because of it. I feel like it's inevitable before the holidays and certainly after at this point. I've been lucky so far but it will eventually run out.

I’m certainly not going to ask for it (I mean, who asks to get sick?) but I do think we’re all going to get it eventually. Similar to the flu in that it’s probably going to be around forever. I only hope that if I catch it, I’m left with mild symptoms.

We have both had it and are not OK with getting it again.

I didn't quite understand the question, the way it was worded. But since becoming fully vaccinated (and also having had the booster now) I do consider myself to live a "normal" life.

But I also still use a mask and hand sanitizer, which I don't consider not living a normal life but a small thing to help save lives of the vulnerable ones who can't be vaccinated, and help end this deadly, economy destroying, worldwide pandemic. I am happy to do my small part.

Those who would still actually refuse to do the above for no solid medical reason have mostly fallen for a bunch of sick, dangerous, non-scientific, fascist propaganda imo. I wish the high level people and organizations putting out the disinformation would be held accountable but also surprised anyone still believes it.

My hope is that the Omicron variant plays out to be less severe than those before it. And if so, then it may be how Covid becomes more like the flu which has often been predicted as the likely long term scenario. If so, I am good with that.

So assuming the above and with evolving treatments/knowledge/vaccines, my answer is cautiously moving towards the same as it would be with the flu. I don't want it, will take measures to prevent it but not live in fear of it.

To some degree, if people are participating in high risk activities (large, indoor, no mask holiday parties), IMO they are "OK" with the potential consequence of getting COVID. It's a risk vs. reward decision.

No… I have been living a normal life for over 18 months…. Our borders open on Thursday & selfishly I don’t want them to….
