I''m in the process of trying to figure out what ''accesories'' I need to still purchase for the wedding.

So far I have to get a ring bearer pillow, photo guest book and more...

I was wondering how many of you are going to order engraved matching toasting flutes and engraved cake serving sets. Or how many of you did and was it worth the expense?

Thanks!

I didn''t buy any thing like that. The day-of co-ordinator, reception site, and cake baker all had serving sets they offered to let us borrow. I couldn''t see us using one again and if we wanted one we''d want a nice one, not the cheap looking ones that are often targeted at a couple. Same with flutes. I just drank from the say type of glass that everyone else did. We bought some very nice crystal ones for us to have later. I love champagne flutes and collect them. I couldn''t see any of my lovelies getting broken at the reception.

We didn''t really want them. We didn''t register for any, so we figured if anyone went out of their way to get us some, we would use them. We didn''t get any, so we''re just using what the caterers provide, and I really don''t think I''ll regret it!

That''s good to know. I''m not sure anyone would even notice what we were using. Also what do you do with an engraved cake serving set later on? Seems like an uncessary expense. I may get toasting glasess though, non-engraved for later use... not sure yet! It''s so hard not to get caught up in buying the tons of little things you can get for a wedding!

My FMIL bought us Vera Wang Duchesse toasting flutes. We would have never chosen to buy such elaborate flutes, so we were just going to use the standard flutes given by the caterer, but she chose to purchase them for us and we love them and are very grateful.

I purchased a cake serving set online and got it engraved from the site and the total was just about $25...and it''s a fun set - with black and white crystals on the handles! I can''t remember exactly where I ordered it from...

What are you planning to do with the serving set, just keep it for memories or re-use it?

We''re not having a wedding cake, but even if we were, we wouldn''t spend the money on an engraved serving set (or a non-engraved set). It''s just not that important to us. We''d be fine just using the one at the restaurant.

Same thing for toasting flutes.

We''re going to borrow them from the reception venue. At some point all those things just get ridiculously expensive!

i registered for crystal toasting flutes which were lenox opal innocence. we also registered for their matching silver plated serving set. we got them both and used them at the wedding. most of the people who came up to the table complimented us on the toasting flutes and i plan on keeping both sets as a memento of the day. i know we will use them again, the flutes are for any "me and him" special occasion and anytime we have a party with cake when i would use the crystal cake platter, that's when i'll use the silver serving set!

eta: the total cost for both sets was about $60.

Definitely not a necessary item. We ended up with toasting flutes because they were given to us (3 pair, actually) but I wouldn''t have spent my own money on them. We used the country club''s silver servers. Oh, and if you are having two cakes will you buy two sets? Just skip it!

We may register (we have not yet) for toasting flutes. we are big champagne drinkers and have several already but it might be nice to have "wedding"ones we can use on aniversary....though we usuually go out for things like that.... we probably wont buy any on our own. And will most likely end up using the venus.

As for cake servers. We will be using the same cut/server as my mother and grandmother. both their wedding dates have been engraved in the server and ours will be as well.

We didn''t even have a cake or a toast at WP2. At WP1, we just used regular ol'' cake cutter and glasses.

Seriously, unless you WANT to spend extra money, what is the point? Don''t bother.

some people like having the memento''s, something from your wedding that you can use again in the future. it''s up to each couple, stupid for some, nice for others.

The only thing I bought was a beautiful antique sterling silver cake knife. It''s huge, dates from the 1920''s and cost me $15 on ebay.

I''m not really into any of the other stuff.

D''s parents got us some beautiful crystal and silver (Carr''s) toasting flutes for our engagement, and we registered for a cake serving set. But we will just use whatever the caterer has - I wouldn''t want to risk forgetting them, or damaging them, at the reception.

We didn't register for toasting flutes, but we got several different sets as gifts, so we used them. We had one pair, and our MOH and Best Man had a pair as well.

We''re planning on having both. But I am still looking for what I want.

Honestly, if I didn't have the stuff already... I wouldn't go out and buy it.

But I do have it, so we'll use it. My cake cutting set and my flutes aren't engraved though... and I don't want them to be. I love my flutes though, John got them for me for Valentine's Day one year and they are just breathtaking.

We aren't having a ring bearer, so no pillow. I'm still trying to decide if we really need a guest book.

My parents bought us a set of Kate Spade champagne glasses for Christmas. I don''t know if there is a difference between champagne glasses and toasting flutes, but they are just the regular ones you''d buy if you were buying a set of glasses. They are very non-wedding-y. We figured we''d use them at the wedding, and on special occasions thereafter, but I wouldn''t have thought to buy them if we hadn''t gotten them as a gift.

We''ll be using the caterer''s cake cutting set unless someone decides to give us one for our shower, but we did not register for one.

we''re not purchasing any of that stuff either. however...the night we got engaged, my FI took me out to eat, and the restaurant we ate at had a speciality champagne drink where you got to keep the glasses as souvenirs, so we''re thinking about using those as our toasting flutes.

We''ll be getting a silver cake cutter to start this tradition. I felt a little sad that this wasn''t already in existence in my family, so then I thought hey--why not be the first?

I''ve been looking mostly on ebay because I love the antiquey silver pieces, as opposed to something more modern or trendy looking.

A siver cake cutter in family tradition thing may be nice. I thought engraved flutes might be too cheesy for us (no offense to anyone that has them). So maybe we''ll buy regular flutes.

I found a wonderful ring bearer pillow maker on Etsy I may use. She makes some with pearls and feathers that would go with my theme.

Also we''re doing a photo guestbook. My stepbrother is printing out 4x6 photos of the guests he''s taking with his portable photo printer. There''s another woman on Etsy that makes a custom guestbook for you with places to put either that size photo or a polaroid and room to write. The coolest part is the lady who makes my invitations uses paper source papers and so does this woman so I can probably have her make me a book that matches the invites for not a ton of money either!

I just wanted to update, I went and bought some really pretty flutes/glasses tonight that were on sale, woohoo! No, they''re not the most expensive or swanky things ever, but I like them. Here they are I found them via PS, so thank you PS! They were 16.99 in the store, plus a CC discount I got all 4 for about $13! So we''ll be using these for the wedding and thereafter.

That''s a great idea Musey!

I ordered flutes with B engraved on them. They are those flutes where it holds champagne in the stem too. I have no idea what they''re called.

Not getting a cake serving set...just using the venue''s stuff.

I''m not sure about her flutes but my sister got a very affordable engraved serving set from Tihngs Remembered in the mall...I''m sure your mall has some sort of store similar to it. I think it''s a nice touch if you want to keep it for memories and for in pictures but most people won''t notice so it''s up to you.

Hah, that reminds me of a friend''s sister''s wedding. Her family is from Dubai, and her sister was married last fall and they cut the cake with a sword. It was AWESOME. I showed J the pictures and he totally wants to do that.

I used the set that my parents used (toasting glasses and serving set). It was extremely sentimental. What''s even better is that both of my older sisters used it for their wedding as well (a very close friend of ours also used them!). So the glasses and the serving set have a lot of "history" in them now. We totally intend on keeping them for all of our children to use at their weddings!

April,

Are the sets you used engraved at alll or are they just matching? Just curious since you''ve used them as a family tradition if there was anything personalized on it. I really like this idea!

Actually, no they''re not personalized at all! So probably no one else knew how special they were to us. But that didn''t matter. We knew and my sister''s families knew and it meant a lot to my parents. But what''s awesome is that the sets do look somewhat "dated". Not that they''re ugly but they definitely weren''t modern looking. So it was looking at something "vintage".

Also at first I had thought of registering for a set of toasting flutes that would be just ours! But I couldn''t find any I liked and thank goodness because I couldn''t believe i had forgotten about my parent''s glasses. And one day while I was lamenting I couldn''t find anything I liked, my sister pulled them out and was ilke you''re not going to use mom and dad''s?

!!! how could I have forgotten! All that time looking and the perfect set was right under my nose!

But I have been toying with the idea of getting the serving set engraved with everyone''s last names who have used it. But I am afraid it would make the knife ugly. I''ll see if I can post some pics of it.
