Are you an extreme couponer??

I feel like I could really get into couponing - I love saving money! - but they don't have coupons in Australia. At all. They have fliers that come out advertising what's on sale each week, but neither the stores or the actual brands offer coupons for possible additional savings.

Such a bummer. I could totally fill my entire garden shed with toilet paper.

In my experience, coupons are very much an American thing. They are inexistent here as well and very rare in the European countries I lived in.

Yep no coupons in Australia. Occassionally you might get a flyer in the mail for discount pizza etc but I've never ever seen or heard of any other coupons. Just an American thing as far as I know...

I would prefer to live in a place where there were no coupons and the price offered is always stable (and not inflated). It's like a horrible game...having to keep track of what's on sale where each week. If I need something and my normal store doesn't have a coupon, I have to find a place place that does have that item on sale that week. It's a huge pita!!

From a theoretical point of view, coupons are a very interesting solutions to serving different customers. Type A wants to go in, pick something up, pay for it and move on. They are willing to pay a little more for this. Type B is value driven and is willing to take time and effort in order to get the best deal. Generally, a store would either be more expensive and cater to A or be inexpensive and have A customers pay less than they would be willing to.

If there are coupons, however, the ordinary store price can be set to Customer A. Customer B, who is willing to spend time searching for coupons, storing them and using them, can get the lower price they want as well. Everyone happy.

In practice, the system would drive me crazy!

There are electronic means to coupons at some grocery stores-- you sign up your store card and the discount is automatically taken off. Also, target stacks coupons--meaning you can use their coupons(they are online and they also mail them if you sign up) and you can also use manufacturer coupons at the same time. I have actually had a few purchases there--mainly expensive venus razors and the like, in which I stacked coupons and also received a gift card for the purchase.

Costco doesn't accept manufacturer coupons but they have store issues coupons. you can really save with those!

Oh thanks for the heads up on Target stacking, on coupons thats great, especially for razor blades! I can't stand how expensive they are!!!
I also have a $10.00 off $100. Coupon that is expiring! Hi Ho hi Ho it's off to Target I go!
