i know i eat too much "JUNK FOODS" but then i've always say...what so good about living to 105 if i can't eat anything else besides healthy foods. imagine a world w/o ice cream, cheese cakes, pies,steaks,lobsters,etc.... ;(

There were times I was in the habit of eating naughty stuff every day.

Lately I've been successful at eating that stuff only a couple times a week.
I appreciate it more than when I ate at much as I wanted every day.

Several years ago DH and I cut out as many processed foods from our diet as we could. We switched to fresh salads, whole grain breads, fresh vegetables, eggs, and occasional servings of meat. No deserts or added sugar any more. DH had high cholesterol, but after the diet change, it dropped to the normal range.

I don't think eating healthy foods should be considered freaky in any way.

Wouldn't call myself a health freak, but DH is on a very restricted diet right now and I am showing my support by joining in with him. It's higher protein, low carb, tons upon tons of veggies and drinking gallons of water. Bleah. It's okay I guess.

I wouldn't say I'm a health freak but I do try and watch what I'm eating. There is still room in my diet though for all the things that you mention. If I splurge I try and eat healthier the next day.

I wouldn't say I'm a health freak, but I have to watch my diet. I developed some health problems thirty years ago and as a result, had to change everything in my diet. It took me almost ten years to switch over from normal everyday foods to all natural foods, but now that I've been doing it for so long, it takes no thought to do my grocery shopping or make food choices when eating out. I eat the way I do to feel good and to not aggravate my allergies and food sensitivites.

I watch what I eat pretty much everyday. I usually splurge on a couple meals on the weekend. I cut out a lot of processed foods and sugar. I try to eat foods high in fiber.

I need to do much, much better. :((

I've become more and more health conscious over the years and just this summer have decided to try and eliminate nearly all processed foods from our diet. It's not as difficult or time consuming (for meal prep) as I thought it would be or people think it is when I tell them what we're doing. We feel really good and we're losing some weight, so it's a win-win.

I'm not an extreme health 'freak' yet, but will probably become one as I get older.I'm still in my 30's but I make sure my family eats organic whenever possible, and we have at least 5 kinds of fruits/vegetables per day. I try to eat whole grain breads and cereals(for myself only) while the rest of the family still eat white flour everything. I also cook with canola oil or olive oil spray, and I don't make deep fried foods at home.

Other than that, I don't cook things for their health value, I still make really tasty foods like lasagna or homemade mac N cheese I just choose really good ingredients.

My parents are what I'd consider health freaks. Very low fat, low sodium diet, and low sugar too. They eat at least 3 types of fruits or veggies per meal! Breakfast is usually a 5 fruit smoothie with a slice of whole grain HOMEMADE bread. Both are in really good health for their ages (70 and 61), my mom can still run after my kids on their bikes. My dad walks 5 miles a day no problem...hope to be like them in the future.

I'm a health freak in some ways, but more when it comes to contagious illnesses. I am the type of person who carries around hand sanitizer all winter long (when everyone seems to be sick!), and I use it constantly. I'm not really a fan of eating only really healthy foods, though - I eat what I want, but I count my calories and only really splurge on my most unhealthy favorites (fried foods and large desserts) about once or twice a week. :)

I eat healthy, but do not consider myself a "health freak". I eat until I am full and will push the plate away when I am no longer hungry.

I eat ice cream, but it may be just one scoop or a lower fat variety. I may even add bananas, cherries, strawberries to it to may it healthier or just because I love fruit with my ice cream or just fruit ...period. I will add almonds to my oatmeal and add cinnamon instead of granulated sugar to sweeten it up . I use canola or olive oil instead of vegetable oil. I eat chocolate, but only the 85% dark chocolate because I actually like it.

I am lucky because I was the one who always cleaned the vegetables off her plate. I actually love vegetables and don't particularly like sweets and I don't like soda.

The hardest part of eating healthy is cooking for a man who grew up eating traditional Polish food which I don't cook or eat. In the beginning it was hard for him not to eat his weekly potato pierogies or have his kielbasi sandwiches, but he grew to love sweet potatoes and grilled fish or chicken and all the vegetables I would load on his plate. A double plus for him is that he is in his mid 50s with 110/60 BP, a resting heart rate of 60, cholesterol of 150, HDL of 120, LDL of 70, and triglycerides of 100 and he takes no meds. When I met him over 25 years ago, though he was slim, his bp was much higher (almost had to take bp meds) and his cholestrol was around 240. However, he still loves his soda.

for those of you who are Chinese knows what i'am talking about. I love "moon cakes" .. :lickout: ... i'd prepare for an "instant heart attack" ::) i call 911 first before i eat any moon cake.

i love limon flaming hot cheetos and coffee for breakfast. my idea of healthy is chipotle's bowl instead of a burrito. (no tortilla, ha) ILOVe mcDonalds fries and will eat that 5 times a week. But i do work out and i'm not a sweets person. not a fan of pastries. Think that helps a lot since i have low bad cholesterol, am on the low end of the average weight spectrum, and i usually dont get sick.

DF- i only eat the egg yolks out of the mooncakes. i'll eat like 6 or 7 in one sitting!

I'm a big believer in moderation. I try to eat very healthy during the week (no junk or desserts except fruit) but on the weekend we'll go out to dinner & I'll order whatever I want. I like having a "cheat day", because knowing that I'll have a scoop of hazelnut gelato on the weekend lets me look forward to it, and I don't feel deprived. I could never totally cut out ice cream or bacon cheeseburgers.

those are duck egg yolks that's why they taste so good.... :lickout:

I eat pretty much whatever I want, but I'd say my diet is probably healthier than most just because my favorite foods are healthy. I don't really like greasy food (exception being McDonald's breakfast and McD's or Five Guys fries) or creamy food (lactose intolerant), so that right there cuts out a ton of stuff that's bad for me. Plus I'm not into carbs like bread, chips, etc.

I did recently quit drinking Coke which is definitely the biggest health-related change I've made to my diet. I've had one here or there but now drink black iced coffee or water almost exclusively. I might as well save my unhealthy calories for McDonald's breakfast!

Oh and I started an awesome training program a few weeks ago and lost a few pounds right off the bat (wasn't trying to lose weight, just get in shape), and I'm starting to get buff already! So maybe I'll turn into more of a health nut once I plateau.
