Are you a happy soda drinker?

All this talk of tea and coffee made me think about soda.

Do you drink a lot of soda? And if so, do you happily drink it, or do you feel like you drink too much but are a wee bit addicted?

I used to drink a ton of it. Every day for lunch, and several refills to boot. Then my friend told me to try diet soda and I said no way! :knockout: She bet me if I forced myself to drink it, I could never go back to regular coke, and she was right. I was so happy that I could drink my soda "guilt free."

Then I went to Europe and soda was more expensive than beer. I quit cold turkey, and haven't drank coke in over 7 years. I don't know why, but I love that I don't drink soda. I STILL miss the fizz of coke from time to time (what DO they put in there anyway that is so addictive?!) but even though it doesn't contain calories, I stick with water or iced tea.

I don't drink soda at all.....water and tea for me :)

BUT I know lots of people that do love soda. I do crave it once in a while and will buy a little baby bottle of some but thats the extent...I never have it in my home.

I had to stop drinking soda. It causes my food allergies to flare up. I think the sugar content/syrups. Every once in a great while I'll have a diet coke, but it's quite rare.

I drink club soda, lots of fizz and no calories.

I LOVE diet soda, and I noticed recently that I'm more likely to grab a soda than a glass of water these days, which isn't usually like me. I used to only drink water at home, and have a soda occasionally. My husband may as well have an IV drip of diet soda, he drinks it that much. I guess it could be worse -- we could be drinking regular soda instead of caffeine-free diet.

I do really like flavored seltzers too, and I've been trying to remember to grab that instead of soda from the fridge.

So I guess you could say that I'm an unhappy soda drinker, but it's hard to kick the habit.

I quit drinking Coke a couple of months ago and I've just been drinking water. I don't notice a huge difference in my weight (maybe a pound or two but I tend to lose a little weight in the summer anyway so who knows if it's related) or skin or anything, but I know it's better for me to drink water primarily instead of soda primarily! I was completely addicted to Coke and would drink it all the time whether I really wanted it or not. So I quit cold turkey. I've actually had 2 Cokes since then and it's not nearly as enjoyable as it was before. It totally tastes too sweet, just like everyone says! I don't like diet sodas and I don't really want to get hooked on something else, so I'm sticking to water and the occasional ginger ale or Sprite.

I do plan on having a giant Coke from McDonald's on my birthday, though. The McDonald's near me has the BEST Coke in the world! It's super fizzy and burn-y and not as sweet as Coke in a can or bottle. That's the only Coke I really miss, actually-the Coke I get when I have McDonald's breakfast! Maybe in a few more months I'll have a weekly Coke with my weekly McDonald's breakfast treat, but for now I think it's too soon since I just quit!

I'm a big diet soda drinker. I've tried to cut down to no more than two a day. Since it's so hot right now, I"m trying to drink one per day and water the rest of the time. But I could easily drink Diet Dr. Pepper with every meal.

Since I converted FI over to Diet Dr. Pepper, we go through 24 packs like you wouldn't believe. We usually a buy a 24 pack on our weekly grocery shopping trip (sometimes we'll get more if there's a good sale) and often, we run out of soda before the end of the week. :o

I do drink soda, but I try not to drink a ton of it. One diet coke with lunch and that's it usually. I love diet A&W rootbeer. It doesn't even taste like diet, it's just YUMMY!

OMG, you just made me SO nostalgic! Coke from Mickey D's is the best! It's the coke, the ice, the cup, and I swear, the STRAW! It's perfection.

You definitely treat yourself to the bday coke!!!!

I hear Diet Dr. Pepper is awesome too...doesn't taste like diet.

Ah, I see merelinda mentioned it!

I don't drink it much. I'll use it for mixed drinks (on weekends only) or have it 'plain' every once in a while (2x a month?) as a treat. 95 percent of my liquid intake is water.

My husband used to be addicted to it, but I got him to cut WAY back. He was drinking ~4+ cans a day, but now he may have one a day. For a while, he cut it out completely, but I noticed he bought a couple 12 packs this weekend.

I do like the taste of it but I try not to have it too often. I will have a diet coke every once in a while though for a treat. Also as you said, if I go to a pub here I can get a diet coke for nearly 3 euro or a beer for 4.50. Think I'll stick with the beer.

I love Diet Coke like crazy. I probably drink too much and have days where I cut back. I stopped drinking it once for six months, but then I decided that there are so many other things I don't eat or drink that are bad for me, drinking Diet Coke would be the one thing I still do.

I really love Sprite and used to always drink it, but now I mostly drink iced tea.

Maybe once a month I'll steal a sip of my SO's soda, and I really enjoy it.

Other than that, none.

I drink Diet Coke with dinner every night. I swear, food doesn't taste the same without it! I think that came from my family's Sunday dinners at my Grandmother's as a kid. My Grandmother made a huge feast of Italian food every Sunday, and my Mom & Dad, and my Mom's one sister and my Uncle and all us kids used to eat together. Of course, the meal always revolved around sauce and pasta, and my Grandmother had the Pepsi man deliver a case of Pepsi every Saturday at noon in preparation for Sunday dinner. Fun memories.....

When I'm really thirsty, like during the day in summer time, I like to drink seltzer with a dollop of natural fruit juice in it. You can turn seltzer into any flavor you like.

I love soda. If I'm having non-Asian foods for dinner, I prefer to drink soda with it. And if I'm stressed and studying, I prefer to have soda. Definitely not good for my health! That said, I don't think I'm addicted to it by any means. Since I've been home (for the last week) I haven't touched soda at all :)

club soda here too. Occasionally I'll indulge in an original coke. Especially if I'm having fast food. Might as well go for broke and enjoy the experience. Nothing is better with a burger.

Except BEER!

I drink it occasionally, mostly if SO has a soda when we go out to eat (I don't buy any soda for our home). Though SO has switched to Dr. Pepper which I don't like nearly as much so I don't drink out of his cup as much anymore. I like it as a treat, but don't have any desire to drink it daily. I treat it in the same category as sweets, delicious but not a daily indulgence.

I am addicted to diet coke, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, (or not) I started a new med for migraine and the very first side effect is to make carbonated beverages taste BLECH!

So cold turkey it is, I can't stand the taste, and all I drink is water!

I used to be addicted to Pepsi. I would drink 3 cans or so a day. Then I got uncomfortable with the idea of being addicted so I quit. I went maybe 2-3 years with only have a soda when I was sick (so maybe 3 a year) but then I got pregnant. Yeahhhh...I swear nothing tasted or felt as good a cold pepsi when I had morning sickness. Now I am back to only drinking 1 every few months. It never taste as good as I remember it but I cannot stand diet.

Growing up we had soda only on special occasions and 7-UP was and still is my favorite. However, I rarely drink soda anymore. My DH had one the other day and it had 45 grams of sugar in it. yikes!

I drink a tall, cold cup of McDonald's Coca Cola once a month. I love it.

Otherwise, we don't drink soda. I'll occasionally drink a soda if we're eating something like pizza, but that's never more than once a month. We never keep any soda in the house, only milk, water, coffee, and iced tea if I brew some.

My mother is a very happy soda drinker. She has at least one Diet Coke a day.

Used to drink a lot of Diet Pepsi or Sprite but suddenly got tired of it. Now I drink Crystal Light lemonade a lot, keep a pitcher in the fridge. Would be healthier to drink water but that's boring too. Still crave a coke when my tummy is upset & it does help.

My husband used to drink a ton, but he gave it up about a year ago. He will still have one once in a while, but that is nothing compared to the 3-5 he was drinking per day.

I have never really been a soda drinker (we call it pop here in Ohio  ). I will have one every so often, but I never finish a whole one. I prefer iced tea.

i have never liked soda, even as a kid-- for some reason i have an aversion to "tingly/bubbly" drinks.

TGal and Haven-what IS it about McDonald's Coke?! I wish they would bottle that and sell it! It is SO GOOD. Although if they bottled it I'd have an even harder time staying away! :cheeky: Okay I have to stop thinking about McDonald's Coke or I'll end up getting that AND breakfast tomorrow morning!

I am a total diet coke addict, I have gotten to the point where I can make it through the day with only two cans, but I could drink it all day. I was able to quit smoking cold turkey but I don't think I could ever quit my diet coke!

I am a Dr. Pepper Fiend. Full stop!

I also drink my weight in water though so I guess it evens out.
