I noticed a lot of PSer's live frugally so that they can buy more bling, so please tell me if you're a coupon clipper, and if so...what type?

I don't clip coupons for groceries, but if I get a restaurant coupon for something like "buy one entree get one free" in the mail, I save those....although I usually end up not using them before expiration. I also love to clip pizza coupons!

Yes I am and proud of it! I get the sunday paper and look through it and I pretty much clip everything. If I think I'm gonna dine out, I try to see what is in the coupon sections, but typically I barely eat out and I normally cook and dine in, so I clip coupons for groceries, toothpaste, pizza, etc. I do my best to find the best deals. When I get to the store though, I always check what would be cheaper like comparing toothpastes since sometimes even with the coupon, it's still not a deal and something else is less expensive then I go for one of those. I get whatever lowers the bill is what I choose to purchase in the long run.

When I DO use a coupon, I'm always amazed at how much I'm saving, that is why I started this topic because I really think I could save enough for some serious bling. Just imagine saving $10-20 dollars per shopping trip.

We have a grocery store called Winn Dixie in our area and I shop their all the time. I don't have a Costco or Sam's Club membership so I don't really buy in bulk since it's just lil ol' me at this time. Normally, the grocery store has a lot of Buy 1 get 1 free deals in almost every department. They also have a loyalty program so the price is cheaper if you sign up and shop there all the time. I buy that way and I typically save between 40%-60% off my groceries. I went grocery shopping just the other day and the bill was originally $210, but with the royalty program I only paid $120, and then I saved about $6-$9 more with the newspaper coupons. Hence I love coupon clipping!

No, I can't be bothered.
I may save on that one item but once I'm in that store I'm likely to buy stuff I would not normally buy or can get cheaper elsewhere. Plus there is the time and gas used going to an additional location. :knockout:

Many coupons try to get me to try new stuff from major corporations that I'd never buy anyway, like high-profit Swift mop refills, Hamburger Helper or Charmin TP
I've never see coupons for staples like milk, eggs or a head of cabbage.

I shop at Costco, Trader Joe's and get my produce at a supermarket that caters to Mexican immigrants which is suuuuuuuuper cheap! Cilantro for 16 cents a bunch! Fuji apples 3-lbs for a dollar! :$$):
Those supermaket chains for white folks are a rip off.

YES! I make it a game. I get the Sunday paper and sometimes buy a second if it has REALLY good coupons. I can't remember the last time I bought diapers for full price. Years probably. The grocery store I go to doubles coupons everyday and sometimes has promos to triple them. The best is buying something on sale and stacking store with brand coupons. It's sad how excited I get. :rodent: I have saved 50% of my bill before. I also shop at BJ's Club where they have their own coupons and you can stack them with regular ones. Gotta love a good deal! You can also sign up for online coupon sites. Get on your favorite products' mailing list.

Wow, that is a lot! I forgot, I usually clip entertainment coupons too, like children get in Legoland free with one paid adult.

These days I rarely shop without coupons. I got in the habit when DH and I were looking for jobs, and I just can't stop now. I combine sales with coupons and save 50-80%. I have even been given money back before

I am! But I use coupons for items that I would buy anyways, like I'm not sure I've had to buy toothpaste without a coupon in awhile. And toothbrushes, BF and I go through toothbrushes quickly. I love going through the Sunday paper and finding coupons for items, but like this week it was kind of disappointing...there was maybe one coupon that I got out of there. But then Walgreens has an in-store sale/coupon going on that made pens $.59 for two!(the Pilot G2 gel pens.) So I stocked up on some yesterday and am super tempted to go get more today.
I also love love love the Costco coupon book that I get each month. I love it because the price is already really good at costco, but with the coupon the unit price is always insanely lower. Did I mention that I love it?
BF showed me this http://www.takepart.com/news/2010/07/20/who-eats-well-on-a-dollar-a-day-the-coupon-man-can today, and it makes me want to buy a new printer so that I can print some more coupons. I'm so impressed by this guy! I don't know that I could buy things that I don't need to get things that I want though.

Not as much as I should :(( We shop mostly at Costco [ paper goods, dairy, all fish/meat/chicken, oils and salads ] I can say that I'm quite good walking away from Most temptations there.
I'm not Asian but Asian at heart.... I take advantage of a huge store near DH's work, most greens are .20 cents and my beloved sweet peas around .79 vs $3.99 at the nearest supermarket.
I'm a little crafty so I will not shop @ Michaels w/o 40% coupon. I'm not frugal with my face products but I clip all soap/personal & cleaning products and purchase large quantities when they go on sale.
Keeping DH at home when I go to costco is my best coupon. He falls for bars, candy, icecream treats, tools, oily pita chips, etc

I used to, but I noticed that more often than not it would cause me to buy things I wouldnt normally buy. Where I shop I have a discount card, and that helps. Most of the things I buy are fresh produce, and bulk items and they dont give coupons for those. :((

Yes, though less so now that both DH and I are employed!

When in tough times I couponed a LOT - because we had to. Lots of mac and cheese, unfortunately! Even now, though, I still use coupons for basics (TP, toothpaste, etc) as well as food. Earthbound organics sometimes sends out coupons for produce, though because it's now summer I go to the farmer's market across the street for most of my shopping.

I only use coupons for stuff I like anyway, and try to buy when it's on sale, and I find I save about 10-15% of the bill, sometimes a bit more. It adds up!

A man after my own heart. Exactly how I feel about them.

I try to avoid big supermarket chains too, so it's not often I would have the chance to actually use coupons.

Slight threadjack, but the bit in bold made me smile. My parents won a raffle prize last weekend and they got an email to tell them. They were all excited, went to collect it and it was.....

a head of cabbage!

It was a very good cabbage, mind you.

Yep I clipped coupons from the Sunday paper, I usually save around 3-5 bucks a week, not alot I know, but every bit helps. I like it when it is triple coupons then I can save as much as 10-15 bucks

I LOVE a good coupon, and by a good coupon, I mean one that's worth a few dollars or more. I never buy anything at Bed, Bath & Beyond without a 20% off coupon, though sometimes their $5.- off coupons give me more of a discount. One Christmas I used seventeen $5.- off coupons and saved a bundle. The Wellness company now sends out coupons to it's newsletter members around the 25th of every month, so now I wait to get them and then buy my bagged dry dog food with a $3.- off coupon and I get one free can of dog food a month. CVS gives it's members club cards that accumulate points for every purchase, so every month I get at least one $5.- coupon and a couple of $2.-s and $3.-s for various specific items. Our grocery store gives a block of $5.- off coupons every so often, one a week for four weeks, I always use those. And of course, Macy's and Lord & Taylor's 20% off coupons and if I need a few things, I take advantage of "friends and family days" when I get 25% off. Those are all the biggies I can think of.

Yep, I'm a clipper...Sunday papers (if its a good week buy more then one), print them off the web, stack manufactor coupons
with store coupons, and roll Extra Care Bucks at CVS.

Also, if you have a Publixs and do the B1G1 deals you can use 2 coupons and not just one. Lots of ways to save.

I'm a stay at home Mom so this is a way to save money and keep myself entertained. There are lots of good coupon blogs
on the web for those who are interested. It can be time consuming but can also be exciting when you find good deals
and save lots of money.

I am. I wasn't before but you can really save a lot of money if you use coupons.

My usual coupon list:
We signed up to be part of our local grocery store's distribution. Now we get a $5 off coupon for $30 purchase along with a bunch of other coupons once a month. We never purchase anything just because we have a coupon but we have used plenty before.

We also signed up for BRU/TRU and get coupons once every 3 weeks which includes a 20% off either the entire purchase or one item, depending on the promotion.

Diapers-we use pampers and huggies so I signed up online for both. We get a ton of coupons from them for anywhere between $3-$5 off and at $40 a case, this comes in handy. Pampers is especially generous after the whole dry max fiasco.

Coupons saved me a lot of money when DD was little, but I don't seem to use them as much as I used to. I do load coupons electronically to my store cards so that helps. I do use coupons for department stores like Macy's, Kohl's, Bed Bath and Beyond.

Not really. I check out the coupons I get at the register in the grocery store (the ones that print out) and if it's something I would normally buy, I'll save the coupon for a later shopping trip.

My pet store gives me coupons every time I shop as a percentage of what I spent, so I hold on to those because they're usually good for at least $1.50 off. It's not much, but it doesn't take any effort to throw it in my purse and save it.

Other than that, I don't seek out coupons.

I signed up for Wellness right away, I'm looking forward to switching my cat over to something else, I also just got a coupon from Petco for Wellness too. Unfortunately it can't be combined with another coupon!

What about services such as: Carwashes, Oil changes, Haircuts, carpet cleaning etc? I noticed that there's HUGE savings in those.

I think I'm more of a dining out, entertainment and services coupon clipper.

I use coupons for things that I would buy, anyway. I go through the Target and Costco mailers and pull out the coupons that apply. I also use Bed Bath & Beyond coupons for toiletries because they send out so many 20% off coupons. I love Loehmann's coupons, and I use them if I was planning on buying clothes. We always use oil change coupons, and our favorite little Italian restaurant in the city (Sapori, if any Chicagoans are interested--get the lobster ravioli) sends us $13 off coupons that we use often.

I try to buy sale items in the grocery store, but only if they're things that were on my list already. I'll buy a different brand of pasta, for example, if I like the ingredients in the sale item as much as the ones in my regular pasta.

I never use coupons for things that I wouldn't otherwise buy just because they're on sale. I do like to see how much I save using coupons. It really adds up, especially with Costco items.

ETA: My Chicago Public Radio membership gets us AWESOME discounts at restaurants and cultural venues, too. We use that A LOT.

I'm a coupon clipper but I'm not a frequent coupon USER. I carry them around with me but forget to use them.

Me too....I have expired coupons in my purse, and a whole drawerful at home.

We don't get the newspaper, so I don't clip coupons. I've looked online for deals, but I never seem to find them. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.
