I'm looking into buying an ultra sonic jewelry cleaner online and was wondering if this is still the best method for cleaning diamonds/pave?

If so, is there a PS user favorite?

depends on who you talk to...some say it'll loosen up the stones in a pave setting.

Nope, I personally would not put a pave ring in an ultrasonic although some to agree with dancing fire's comments above. A soft baby toothbrush and little dawn is what I'd suggest.

If you soak it daily in jewelry cleaner, it shouldn't get much buildup. From past posts I have seen people brushing a ring too much causing wear that way, too, so use the baby toothbrush only occasionally! A squirt of Windex can be good, too, if the setting is platinum.

I use,per my local guys recommendation, mostly warm water, splash of clear ammonia, and splash of Mr. Clean or TopJob. Let it soak for a bit, longer if it's grimier, and scrub with clean unused toothbrush (no toothpaste residue it will scratch!) or a stiff clean small paintbrush. Rinse in warm water.

Works like a charm!

This is also the advice I give, if you clean the ring regularly its very easy to keep clean without the use of an ultrasonic, dirt and oils rinse away easily because they haven't had time to build up and harden.

Pave if done well will survive an occasional clean in an ultrasonic for a short time, but the piece should be examined under a loop first to check condition.

I also recommend having the piece profitionally cleaned and checked by your jeweler every six months just so you can find and fix any small problems before they become big problems.

My very favorite, super duper top secret, fancy-pants cleaning method:

Hot, hot water
Few drops of old school green Palmolive (all dish soaps are not equal! I haven't tried Dawn, but Palmolive is the bomb!)
Soak for a few minutes, scrub gently with a baby toothbrush, rinse then dry with a paper towel (beware of cloth towels because of fabric softener residue! Paper towels are best) and, if you're really neurotic like me, give it a quick blast with your hairdryer to ensure no water spots

Works like a dream, cheap, safe, and readily available!
