Hi from a newbie!!!!

Partner and I went into Tiffany & Co in Sydney the other day and I had a look at a ''Lucida'' cut diamond solitaire (Lucida cut exclusive to Tiffany''s), which was 0.97 carat, D Colour and VVS2 clarity. I happened to glance at the price tag and looked as if I had swallowed a lemon. $27K (AUD), which equates to $20K USD!!!!

Now, I have also seen a Rand design diamond with diamond encrusted band and the solitaire diamond is just over a carat, the whole ring a tdw of 2. This was priced in at $18K (AUD) or $13,350 USD. I dont know the colour or clarity, but to the naked eye it was just beautiful and gleamed astoundingly... It was also alot prettier than the very plain Lucida diamond in all aspects....

To me $27K is astronomical for what it is... Is this just because of the namesake???

You are paying more for the Tiffany''s brand name.

Yes, I have read that you pay about 30% of your price for the namesake, don''t know if that is true.
The above diamond being a D colour and VVS2 are very high grades so that would put the price up by thousands also. Did you see anything in the G colour and VS2 grades to see if you could see a difference with your own eyes?

The rings at Tiffany at Sydney are very expensive, but so is most jewellery in Sydney.

We purchased a ring at Tiffany''s in the US that should have cost about A$22,000 (got a slight discount, long story). Nearly the exact same ring at Tiffany''s Sydney (1.07 US v 1.09 Aus, but better cut in US, everything else same) was A$27,700. That''s about A$6,000 difference.

The prices here are ridiculous!

I figured as much. I agree that Sydney''s jewellery prices do seem exorbitant also...

The trouble is though it is quite a fine line. Pay too much for great quality, or pay for a ''bargain'' that really isnt a bargain...

This has given me thought for another topic I''d like to start...

Thanks!!!
