I had a little diamond hidden in my fiancee''s band. I asked for a 4 pointer since my eternity band is 33 stones equalling 1.35ct. That divides to (0.040909090909090909090909090909091). That means the average size of stones in my eternity band is a 4 pointer right?

So why does the 4 pointer in the wedding band look so much smaller? Or is that just in my head?

I know diamond size/per carat can vary with cut, but I didn''t think it would be a visible difference, is that the case?

I also want to add that I love the wedding band and don''t want to return it or anything. Just want to get my facts straight before telling people its the same size stone as the ones in my band.

Oh, is it also possible that because it is flush-set some of the diamond is hidden, so it won''t fall out? I''m not sure how they get it to stay in ther!

You have to bear in mind that the way the hidden diamond has been set will actually cover the edges of the hidden diamond. This will make it appear smaller than the claw-set stones in your eternity band, because the claw setting allows the entire face of the diamond to be seen.

So, to answer your question, they are in all probability the same size - they just look different because of the different setting methods.

I wouldn''t worry too much, as you and she will be the only ones that ever compare the sizes. :)

Thanks Cleo, that''s what I thought. I never actually asked how they get that little bugger in safe and secure. It makes perfect sense that some metal has to cover the sides of the diamond. And like you said, noone is going to see it anyway! Either way it looks perfect and I wouldn''t want to change a thing about it.
