Are there definite "don''ts" for bridal makeup?

This is an uber informative thread. I have no clue about make up because I don''t wear it, so this is very very helpful!

Ironically, I just had my makeup done today. I also walked away a little disappointed. They kept saying I need more blush than I''m used to so it shows up in pictures, but to me that means I''ll look ok in the pics but will have looked scary to everyone in person. Seriously, FIs reponse was "it doesn''t look BAD, it''s just different---you look like a doll". I assume that''s a bad sign?!?!?
My big issue is what to do with the eyeliner! She used heavy black liquid liner and lined all the way to the corners which I never do. I felt like I had cat eyes. Your eyes I think actually look pretty good in the photos. I wonder if you hate the shimmer because of the shade he used?? Seems too white. Definitely do matte if that''s what you like, who cares! And it''s an easy one to change.
I''m so glad I''m not the only one who was disappointed in the trial session. I began thinking well SHE is the expert not me. Maybe I''m just not used to that look yet I look fine. I don''t know if I should do another trial asking her to change the eyes or if I should get a new girl???? Any thoughts? I''m getting married in only 2 weeks so I really don''t have time to find all these makeup people. I was thinking the MAC or Sephora counter would defintely do a better job, but now I''m scared after reading this. Do my own make-up or what? Like someone said in this post, I''m worried about being too nervous to apply my own. This shouldn''t be this hard!!!

I haven''t read the rest of this thread but I HIGHLY recommend a good moisturizer as well. My skin isn''t dry at all but I''ve found my skin has become super silky after using the Olay Regenerist line. In the morning, I use the serum and over it use the SPF 15 moisturizer and at night I use the recovery moisturizing treatment. It''s fantastic for smoothing out lines too!
Incredible stuff isn''t it. I HAD super-dry skin until I discovered this.

Even FI has dumped his Clinique range in favour of it.

Has anyone tried the eye serum - is it any good?

I read that the eye serum is basically the same as the fragrance free daily regenerating serum, just the same price for half the amount...marketing.

I have been using the daily fragrance free serum for about a week on my eyes and it has dramatically helped. My under eye skin was flaking really bad, I have never experienced this before so I think it was an allergy to another cream or something...anyway, it totally cleared up after 2 days of using this! I also use it all over my face some days (just experimenting) and I notice that my foundation stays a lot better when I use it and my skin feels super smooth. I love it!!!

winston26 - I laughed when you said your FI said you looked like a doll...guys are so funny. What kind of guy is your FI? If he likes you in makeup, and likes women in makeup in general the "it doesn't look bad" probably means you could do better. But if he has no clue, I wouldn't pay much attention. Do you have any girls you can ask? Or can you post some photos here? It would be really helpful if we could see it.

I don't like the whole liquid eyeliner thing unless it's softened with powder shadow on top. But, I felt the same way - they know what they're doing, so if they tell me I need x and y, I need x and y. But what I walked away with from the posts here, is that most others said they either brought pictures of exactly what they wanted, or spoke up and demanded certain things (like sumbride).

What I would do if I were you, being that you are only two weeks away (congrats, by the way!) I would try different ways to line your eye with liner you have at home. I think doing what looks best for your particular eyes is key. Halfway, all the way, both top and bottom, bottom only, etc. - same with the mascara, actually - some people look good with both upper and lower lashes done, others don't - practice yourself to see what looks best first. There really isn't that many combinations, so it shouldn't take you that long at all. Then take a few pictures. Once you see what looks best on your eye, I would go to the MAC counter and tell them exactly how you want it lined. Not so much how they do it but the look you want. Also maybe dark brown would be better for you instead of black, which is inherently harsher. And definitely take pictures - it really helps you see what it will look like. Bottom line is, definitely speak up and tell them what you like and don't like.

Surfgirl and a lot of other people did their own makeup, but I don't think I can go that route. I'd rather sit there while someone works on me, I think I will just have too much on my mind.

As far as the shimmer, yes, I kept saying I felt it was too silvery...too white is another way of saying the same thing. I never like that look, even on other people. I would like a little bit of shimmer, but not the whole eye. I felt like it really made me look older.

I have GOT to try the Oil of Olay Regenerist line!

ok, Claudinam!!! I totally get it now! I am sitting here with shiny gold eyeshadow on top of my crinkly eyelids right now after a visit to Sephora. I told the girl I am looking for bridal make-up and who there was the best. So she sends over, I kid you not, MORTICIA! AAAGGGHHH So she picks out what looks like brown-tone eyeshadows (looked fine in the container). She even used that URBAN DECAY PRIMER everyone raved about. Everyone walking by says "you look nice". I have high hopes at this point. I pick up the mirror......AAAAAGGGHHH. What the heck happened to my eyelids???? Crinkly, spotty, old lady eyelids???? I thought "hmm, it''s that shiny stupid eyeshadow we were talking about on PS I bet!!" I told them "let''s try a matte color, I don''t like that my eyelids look creased/crinkly". They say I don''t see that at all (yeah right) and then run all over the store claiming there just isn''t any matte eyeshadow anywhere! Finally, produce some Bare Escentuals stuff. It still looks shiny on me. I wonder if she slipped some on again after the BE was put on. Has to be that darn primer. Forget it! Did you find any alternative that actually works yet??

Getting more and more nervous about make-up for the big day!

I did theater in HS and man this thread is giving me stage makeup flashbacks. But to be fair to the makeup artists, I was wearing a TON of makeup, for me, at the wedding we attended on NYE but when I look in the pics I look shiny (and I was powdering most of the night) and like I''m just blah--you can''t really tell I''m wearing makeup. I was wearing almost all Mac too, now that I think about it. Loose powder, eye makeup were all Mac. So I kinda understand going a little heavier for the pics... but at the same time I don''t want to walk around wearing stage makeup on my wedding day either. I wonder how to achieve that balance.

I was telling this Sephora girl the same thing, that I understand it''s better to have more on than usual so you look nice in the photos yet I also want to look beautiful in person, not freaky made-up. The amount I had on the first time was down-right scary in person. Great that the photos are nice but your guests will also have the memory of what you looked like in person.

Oh definitely. My parents and their friends attending a wedding on Saturday night. Their comment about the bride? "She looks better normaly, her hair was too tight, her make up too heavy"... and it all distracted them so much they couldn't remember anything about her dress and called it "nothing special and completely forgettable." I was like... YIKES!

Granted, these are extremely vain and critical people. Especially her one friend that made most of the comments, her son is a model and so that makes her an authority on all things fashion and appearance related. She couldn't express an emotion for all the botox in her face though. So you gotta take it with a grain of salt.

LMAO!!! i''m having flashbacks to samantha jones going to get botox on satc and the nurse or whatever saying, "you may find it difficult to express emotion, so you might have to say ''i am very angry''"

my cousin''s photographer posted her wedding pix today--in addition to my tim curry circa rocky horror makeup, i realized in the pictures that the dingaling makeup artist failed to draw on eyebrows. she spackled over them and forgot to put them back on...forget tim curry. i''ve changed my comparison to mrs. potato head. that heifer!
