I have been scouring WF and GOG for a winning RB and just realized by reading another post about ovals that getting to .95ct or even 1.04ct would be about $1000 less than a RB. Same thing appears to be true for Princess stones?!

The whole reason I was thinking round was to maximize sparkle and flash. Do you get this with a princess or oval, or any other cut as much as RB? I like Asscher and cushion, but want to avoid cuts that don''t really sparkle and wink.

Then, assuming a well-cut stone of these shapes DOES wink and shine, how on earth do you judge them with pics and numbers? Does Idealscope work with non-round cuts and does HCA work with them?

This is becoming so confusing, fun, and overwhelming all at the same time!

Thanks for any tips you can offer about other cuts and their sparkle factor!

Price is cheaper, but difficulty goes up considerably. Princesses face up really small, so I wouldn't choose that if you want to maximize bling.

Rounds also are the most brilliant cut of all with the best light return.

Ovals and pears face up biggest, but you need pics and idealscopes to be able to evaluate them at all on the net.

HCA only works for rounds.

HCA for fancy shapes has not been done, but now i have a patent it is oe of the things I must consider.

$ pre sqaure millimeter - there is not much difference between rounds and most fancy shapes. But rounds win on $ per lumin''s per sq mm.
But that is also because there has ben too little work on other shapes and cuts to properly maximize their potential.
