What an awesome community we have here!

Wanted some advice as I think I've narrowed down what I'm looking for, but it's a bit intimidating and a large purchase!

Budget: ~18-22k for the stone
Cut: Round
Carat: Thinking 2.3-2.5
Cut: Excellent
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Ring Setting: It'll be in a round halo with pave diamonds (of a similar color)

Other factors: She really wants a stone on the larger side as she's 6ft1 with long fingers (size 7.5 ring) she thinks its important (eye roll)

I've found a few options, but what do we think? Is this going to look awesome? Should I consider a different mix? If so I can post some GIA reports and get opinions.

Has she tried stones on, so that she knows her size preferences and also her sensitivity to colour and inclusions?

You could go down to even a K and increase the size if she was not bothered by colour or preferred it.

Likewise, going down to SI stones will mean being able to increase size - but eye-clean stones become harder to find and need careful vetting.

Using the Search Bar at the top of the forum and some recommended parameters, I get 98 diamonds to choose from:

https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/search?vendor=-1&branded=None&inhouse=-1&shape=1&minprice=1&maxprice=22500&mincarat=2&maxcarat=4&mindepth=58&maxdepth=62.3&mintable=53&maxtable=58&mincut=1&maxcut=1&mincolor=1&maxcolor=6&minclarity=2&maxclarity=8&minsymmetry=1&maxsymmetry=2&minpolish=1&maxpolish=2&min_cut_gia=1&max_cut_gia=1&min_cut_ags=1&max_cut_ags=2&minflourescence=1&maxflourescence=6&checkbox_panel1=04,05&checkbox_panel2=&sort=carat-desc&page=1&pageview=96&adv=true&days=100&cert_number=

Looks like WF has inventory (the in-house section), of which the 2.4 H SI1 A Cut Above stone is the largest:

You could get to 2.5ct I VS2 from the virtual inventory list (with a small inclusion in the table - you/your lady would need to decide if you could see it and if you were bothered by it - and with Medium fluorescence, which would help lift the colour in some lights). It's listed in two places, BN at $22.3k and Adiamor at $19.7k:

Thanks for your response!

Color: I'd go down to a J for the right stone, as she is color sensitive, but I think a J in the right cut could work.

I'll post a few options once I vet them and i'd love to see peoples response from there!

Excellent. Don't forget to use the HCA tool under the Tools tab at the top of the forum to sift any GIA XXX stones and confirm the crown and pavilion angles will work together :)

These 4 are at the upper end of my budget but any thoughts:

I would need to inquire if the SI1 is eye clear

Great choices! I don't think the SI1 will be eye-clean, but it does not hurt to ask. The description says inquire under eye-clean for this stone.

Of the VS2s, I prefer the porportions of the 2.322 and it also has less painting compared to the other two. My wife's stone from BGD has similar proportions/painting 34.4/40.7/55.4/61.4 and it is amazing.

From a well respected vendor such as WF painting is used to enhance the light performance of a stone. The higher the degree of painting results in more brightness at the sacrifice of some scintillation. I would recommend having a rep walk you through each stone and give their opinion as well. There is only so much info you can get from numbers and seeing them in action is a great way to narrow down 3 great choices!
