Hi there,

I have a 1.5 ct e-ring and have purchased a .50 tcw diamond bezel eternity ring as a RHR ( 17 diamonds in ring)

The diamonds in the eternity ring are supposed to be VS2/G .

The diamonds in the ring are nowhere near as sparkley as my e-ring.

Is this normal in melee diamonds or have I bought a crap ring?

Unfortunately color and clarity aren''t all there is to diamonds...the sparkle really comes from the cut of the stones, so it''s likely that your eternity band has poorly cut stones and your ering has nicely cut stones.

That being said there will never be as MUCH sparkle from a small stone, it''s just not possible. But they should still look like little fireballs.

nf..., thats the key to the explanation (until you see otherwise)..., and we have not seen the eternity band as of yet!

Cant compare the sparkle/fire/life between a one carat and a 3 pointer +/-...

OK.

I understand that cut is the most important thing.

I made sure my e-ring had a very good cut and I love it.

If I wanted to buy a .30 ct+ diamond I have charts showing AGA porportions and the HCA so I can make an informed decision.

But melee diamonds don''t have enough data to allow me to judge them.

So how can I be sure that an eternity ring I buy online will wow me?

Addiitional problem - I''m English and the best rings are in the USA.

This means that I can''t inspect rings personally.

Does this mean I''m restricted to Pricescope vendors?

I would have bought from one of them but they don''t have the style I want.

You can use idealscopes on melee stones if you are so inclined...but otherwise it''s best to buy from a vendor with known melee quality IMO...

Well-cut small melee stones have more of a "shimmer" look than bold sparkles.

If they are well cut they will definately still sparkle.
I recently bought a second-hand diamond band with 5pointers, and of course the cuts don't even compare to my ideal cut ering, but they have sparkle and fire none the less.
If yours is dead, then there is a chance it is not good quality - do you have any pics you can share? And from where did you buy it if I may ask?

Many thanks for all your advice.

Tried and tried to take picture of ring but I am in the UK.

Which means it''s dark when I go to work and dark when I return.

After taking over 50 shots I realise I cannot take a good picture in artificial lighting.

And then today my question was answered by a post by Musey in SMTR forum.

Her wedding looks exactly like mine, with same amount of sparkle.

However, I can''t afford Tiffany prices.

Mine was bought from UK website.

It''s taught me that you cannot compare a 1.5ct diamond with melee diamonds.

My BF has told me not to buy small diamonds again.

He thinks that a diamond should be a bold statement.

Suits me but he''ll die when he knows the cost - especially with the sinking pound.

Not sure how you could tell that from pictures

BUT... you inspired me to take a little video. I find that both of my rings look SO different in real life than in pics that I post on here, because pictures rarely capture any of the sparkle at all.

Just for fun:

Forgive the awkward hand position--I couldn't find a patch of sun that I didn't have to REACH for!
