Are Krispy Kreme doughnuts really THIS good?

St John is a London restaurant owned by Fergus Henderson, who was one of the first famous chefs to advocate nose-to-tail eating--if we're going to eat animals, to make use of the whole animal, not just a few prime cuts. I don't adore the restaurant as it's a bit meat-heavy for me :), but their bakery is a whole other story...:kiss2:

These are their vanilla custard doughnuts. They also do chocolate, salted caramel, jam and lemon. Fortunately, we don't live too close.

Not my favorite. I prefer fried to raised, and frosted to glazed.

They seem to be a southern specialty and always enjoyed them hot off the rack. Very sweet. This was a new frozen concoction in Nov.

They haven't got anything on a good local shop.
Those Irish kids would have ecstasy seizures if they took a Maine donut tour.
And they would leave fat, that too.

Holy Donuts (a local outfit that uses Maine grown mashed potatoes in their recipe) does not sell day-old donuts and they also do not like to run out. This creates dozens upon dozens of leftover donuts after a crappy weather Sunday. Guess how many crappy weather Sundays we've had this year? They donate their day old's to schools and mine was one of them. The dark chocolate sea salt glazed donuts, with a whopping 700 calories each, still taste heavenly on Day 2.

Yes, I gained 5 pounds from Sept to March!

Is good when it is hot :lickout: but I haven't had any in awhile.

KK are ok but don’t think you are missing anything special. I love hot fresh cinnamon ones.... :lickout:

I'm not a donut fan especially ones that are fried. However, I do miss LaMars cinnamon rolls (Have not had one of those in a very long time!) When I worked at KCP&L I would get 2 dozen glazed + my cinnamon roll on my way to work because I was the closest to it....lol Line would be out the door.

I gave up all of that by 1998.

OOooh yeah, Maine knows how to donut. Our local Dough Boy does the same.
And ice cream. Gifford's is my weakness.

I gave up sugar and white flour/rice maybe 10 years ago.
All I can say is I still crave this (IMO) most addictive and evil drug on the planet.

See pictures of these kinds of "food" still gets my juices flowing.

I have a gluten free diet, walking past bakeries with the smell of warm just cooked freshly baked bread I find a lot more difficult than donut shops.....

Ok so who makes yummy yeasted (not cake) doughnuts?
No custard or jelly filling please. Only chocolate cream filling or no filling, just glaze.
Scandalous I know lol. But I hate custard & jelly .

That shop is excellent! We loved it when we went to Maine.
