i have been researching stones for around 4mnths and know the basics...after searching quite thoroughly through the BlueNile website as well as the GoololdGold website im left a little confused...

Goodoldgold seems to be more expensive than blue nile for stones with the same specs...

any opinions??

im looking at stones around 2ct mark for around the $US15000 mark

GOG, puts their stones through all sorts of tests They do it all, Sarins, idealscopes etc...

simple answer: no.

long answer: BN are a drop shipper - they may never even see the diamond the sell you.
GOG, as Kaleigh mentioned, hand pick all diamonds and run extensive tests/reports/imaging on them.
This is not an apples to apples comparison.

Are GOG''s diamonds generally priced higher than BN''s? Yes, at least in my experience. However, "overpriced" is a subjective term. You get what you pay for, and GOG provides hand-selected stones, a wealth of information about each diamond, lifetime guarantee, trade-up policy, and excellent customer service. They will even make videos for you! IMHO, it''s worth the premium. Mall stores, for example, are what I would consider overpriced, because they charge as much or more than GOG, and you don''t get any of these benefits. Not to mention their stones usually aren''t so hot.

Just an FYI on this topic. GOG also has a price match policy and when it comes to "virtual diamonds" can easily match and demonstrate why any particular diamond is valued as it is. Just because 2 diamonds are the same carat weight, clarity, color and even the same GIA or AGS cut grade there are reasons why various diamonds are valued as they are on today''s market. Even a search on the same website listing virtual diamonds will reveal a plethora of different prices for the same carat/clarity/color/cut grade. I recently did a shoot demonstrating 3 diamonds that all had the same specs on paper and varied in value by over $15,000!

All the best,

Didn''t know about the price match - that''s really cool!

thanks an absolute tonne to everyone for their information...does make me feel a little more comfortable purchasing from GOG knowing the stone is almost guaranteed to be beautiful...

hey jonothan...my name is caleb brown and i live in australia...

am looking for a stone and have US$ 16,000 to spend...can you guys source stones that arnt on your website...

im looking at something from 1.7 ct but would prefer closer to 2.0 ct if not 2ct...

I just recently worked with Jon and GOG to purchase my diamond. I have to tell you that the diamond was the best value by far that I had seen. I was actually planning on waiting at least another month to purchase, but I could not pass up the deal while it was in front of me. The diamond is gorgeous.

You also need to take into account that when you buy a GOG diamond that has the Lifetime Guarantee policy, it comes with a lifetime trade up policy for the full paid value of the stone. This also comes with a 70% buyback policy. This is what you call "Value Added".

thanks for your advice...

what stone did you pick up??

Here''s my thread from when I received the diamond: Thread. I got a great deal on this diamond, because it was just barely below hearts and arrows standards. Jon still offered the diamond with the lifetime guarantee though, because it was such a great stone.

You need to e-mail Jon directly to ask about this stuff. Vendors are not allowed to peddle their wares on PS.

This thread is a great reminder that there is so much more to purchasing a diamond than simply comparing printed specs. There is much, much more to a diamond than what you see printed about it. The reports and scans are a good start, but, they are not the be-all end-all by any means. If you can''t see a stone in person, finding a trusted vendor who is looking out for you best interests AND your particular tastes, is paramount. In this case, if it were me, I''d feel a lot better about spending more to get a respected professional''s hands-on look and feedback in addition to all the other information about a particular stone.

Nor would you want him to, lest he post a great sounding diamond that fits your bill that somebody else snatches up while you''re weighing your options!

remember there is a reason why there are GIA and AGSL reports. They are two most recognized institutions in grading diamonds in US. Even though there might be small differences between diamonds that are being graded the same, but when they are within a certain range, they will all shine :)

just my two cents, no offense to those who like to have a great range of information but you also pay more for having more information on a stone :)
