At the store yesterday the salesperson mentioned it also makes a difference in the diamonds light performance if the girdle is polished or not. This sounded a bit weird to me that it would make a noticeable difference. Are girdles polished anyway? I''ve never seen it mentioned on a cert. "Girdle: polished". So is this anything to be aware of?

what you will see is Girdle: Faceted, that means polished. My FI's diamond has a "bruted" girdle, non-faceted. The light performance should be unaffected by either style unless there is a fundamental problem with the cut in the first place. you will see both, although probably see faceted more often. I had it in my "i dont care" part of my list when shopping.

Will it effect light performance, no (unless it’s straying into fisheye territory). A possible effect on color, yes. The link Skippy provided details that.

Personally I love a faceted girdle, especially on a larger diamond where a bruted girdle is quite apparent to the eye. Whether it has an effect on the diamond''s performance or not, I''m just not a fan of the "sanded edge" look.
