Are Extra Facets a bad inclusion in a VVS2 diamond?

Hello all,

Just had a question. I am looking at purchasing the diamond at the link below:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2763530.htm

However I had a question. The AGS report says that it has an extra facet as a listed inclusion. Is that bad on the list of more / less desirable inclusions??? I am assuming that any inclusion on a VVS2 diamond is not going to be a big issue, but I just want to make sure that an extra facet isn't horrible. The ASET and idealscope image appear to look good, although I am by no means an expert (not even remotely close, lol). So, is the extra facet acceptable? Also, any thoughts on the stone as well would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No inclusion of any type would make any difference in terms of visibility/structural soundness/light return in a VVS2 ::) So yes, the extra facet(s) is perfectly fine!

Yssie,

Awesome, thanks! I didn't think so, but better safe than sound.

As a final question about this stone then, what do you all think about the IS / ASET for this stone? I noticed quite a bit of red in the ASET, but maybe a touch more blue than I am used to seeing. Thoughts? What do you think of the two images? Thanks again!

the ASET looks great!

Ditto, looks nice!

The blue is contrast - so when you turn the stone other facets/groups of facets will contrast ::) It's when there are giant clumps of blue that don't change colour when you tilt significantly that you've got to worry, but there's nothing like that at all here!

SLG and Yssie,

Thanks for the input, that is very comforting. I did notice when looking at the light performance picture on the AGS report that there is a fairly decent amount of blue together. Could a stone even get a 0 from AGS on light performance, much less be an ACA stone from WF, if the issue that Yssie described in her last post was present?

Also Yssie, if I may ask... If I understood correctly, the blue isn't bad if you turn / rotate the stone and it goes away or changes to red / green... is that about right? If that is the case, how do I know that isn't an issue since I can only see a still image of an ASET and not a video of the stone being turned? Just want to make sure that I understand correctly. And thank again!!!

Ack!! I didn't mean to worry you - there is *nothing* at all to worry about with this stone, it'll be stunning in every way, promise!!

WF would vet stones for those sorts of issues, and other issues, yes, so their ACAs are pretty much "pick blindly and be merry" territory. What I'm talking about... was just to give an example of a time excess blue in ASET could be significant, but I actually meant a *lot* more blue. A video ASET is really helpful when you're dealing with a vendor who can't appraise the stone for you, when you're looking at a stone that hasn't already been pre-vetted, or when you think a given stone might for some reason be problematic, but none of those are issues here :))

But yes, in short, exactly what you say in your second paragraph - the issue is when you have any large facet or group of facets that doesn't change behaviour as the stone is tilted/rotated.

Yssie,

Thank you so much for the explanation, I really appreciate it. I just wanted to make sure that what I was getting wasn't going to have any dark spots / areas of crummy light performance, and you really cleared everything up for me. Sounds like I can go ahead and order.

OK, last thing. I had been planning on getting her a 1ct princess, but due to financial stuff that I discussed with my GF, I am now getting the stone that I linked to, which is about .7 ct. She really likes the setting below, which says it can accommodate a stone between .5 and 2.00 ct. Just wondering if a .7 ct stone would look funny in this setting. I hope not, because she really likes it. Once again, thank you for all this help!

That setting is simple elegance - I think it'll be lovely with a 0.7ct. I'm poking around and there doesn't seem to be anything lower clarity and closer to the 1ct mark - of everything I'm seeing the one you picked looks like the best deal, I'm glad you have it reserved! There are other vendors like James Allen that have non-branded stones at lower pricepoints, but there's some headache/extra expense involved in buying stone and setting from different vendors so I'd recommend keeping it all in the family if possible.

Some pics of that setting w/ a 0.65ct RB at the end of the thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/seeking-help-between-2-settings.128300/#post-125672#p125672
Doesn't specify ring size but contact WF and ask for some pics of the setting, they likely have more on file.

Wow, Yssie, you rock. You have been so helpful, and so has everyone else on here. I am so appreciative for all the advice and support. I have my order filled out, and am just waiting on her to get her finger sized. She has a crazy busy schedule though, and she is really doing the best she can, so hopefully WF will give me a little while. Again, thanks for everything. I think I have everything all picked out. Well, I'm sure I'll think of more questions :-).
