Are Emerald cut diamonds just hard to find?

Hi All,
I have just taken a look at a few websites .. White Flash.. GOG etc and i have been looking for details of emerald cut diamonds.. My girl friend is pretty much set on this cut and i tend to agree love the way it looks.

My question is why do i seem to be having trouble finding a good selection with data .. not just the GIA report.. ie photo''s optic scans etc?

On WhiteFlash who i read nothing but good things about on this site seems to say on every emerald cut diamond "contact us " whilst on other cuts they have lots of photo''s .. optical and visual etc... not just "sample photo"

Am i looking in the wrong places.. or are Emerald cuts just hard to find?

my budget is around 8K USD and looking for 1-1.3 D or E with a good cut.

Any pointers would be good

so far GOG seems to be the only one i can find that has accual data... but im sure i havent looked hard enough yet..

WF owns all their in-house stones. Emeralds just aren''t movers.

OK so now i am offically confused... RE emerald cut diamonds

in an email with a diamond broker i have been told that the AGA diamond figures cannot be used as a absolute, which i understand. Also that even diamonds rated 4B can be great and diamonds rated 1A-1B can be terrible ..its all in the optics.... so as i know little i will take all that as true.

So now i have a simple question. If it is all in the optics how can you seriously consider buying a diamond on the internet without some kind of optical data.. which for emerald diamonds seems to be on the rare side.

i have been on blue nile and white flash and they only have reports.. Good old gold seem to have optic data.. but few choices..
So how do i get out of this dilema? beause if it is all in the optics and very few people show the optics how do you ever now you are not buying a lemon... i guess lemons need love too

I am totally confused....please someone take pity on me and unconfuse me

4B is seriously stretching his claims. If he said 2B, that'd be more correct. without someone seeing the stone, it's all about chances. 1A has a higher chance of being a performer than a 3B, for example.

It seems you can do these:
1. pick a diamond from GOG's inventory.
2. ask GOG to find a stone for you that matches your specifications.
3. pick a 2 or 3 stones from WF's virtual lists, which they will call in and take pictures for you.
4. flag down strmrdr and ask him for help picking an emerald.

stmrdr is computer geek who has spent a lot of time working with virtual models of square emeralds.

It is not too hard to decide if it's an ok stone or a bad stone, but harder to decide if it's merely good or excellent. I think the only other vendor with emeralds that you could quickly weed out would be James Allen, because they show pictures of a lot of stones.

Buying EC's online is about lots of pictures and someone who knows a good EC from a bad one as a vendor.
They usually require having some called in and the vendors have various policies on that some will call a couple in for free others charge $30-$50 per diamond to bring them in that is refunded with purchase.

There are several.
I bought my diamond from www.goodolddgold.com one thing I like about him for EC''s and Asschers is helium scanner based ASET images which is a huge plus.

I see stmrdr jumped in this thread but just wanted to clarify that he is a forum member and a consumer only. he is not affiliated with any vendor other than possibly purchasing from them

I agree with the GOG recommendations. You might also check with Mark T of www.engagementringsdirect.com. he''s located right in the diamond distict and can eyeball many vitual stones that most vendors whould have to have called in due to their geographical location.
