I''ve been trying to figure out what colors to choose for the BM dresses. We''re having an evening wedding in April, so I think my colors will be yellow, cream, accents of green and a dark neutral (probably black).

Originally I was thinking of maybe going some shade of pale yellow BM dresses. But then I don''t know if it would really stand out very well.

So then I thought, well, why not just black? It''s easy, elegant and the flower colors would really pop in front of the dark dresses. When I brought it up with my sister, though, she thought it would look like a funeral! (I''m only having 2 BMs, btw)

Do other people have thoughts on this? I''m personally not sure why black is sometimes frowned upon for a wedding (especially one in the evening) b/c I think it''s elegant, a lot of people look good in it, and who doesn''t have a great black cocktail dress they love to show off? Personally, I''ve seen too many unflattering and too casual pastel-colored outfits at weddings...Our wedding is outdoors, but I''m trying to go for a slightly more formal tone.

I sure hope its not bad because I had black BM dresses. Actually I and my girls loved them - they were able to use the dresses again after the wedding, they looked super elegant and classy, and as you said, the flower colors popped in front of them. I think that you, in a white dress with a huge grin on your face will keep things from looking anything like a funeral, not to mention how happy everyone around you will be as well

nope...mine are black. I think it looks classic!

Mine were black and I''ve gotten a lot of compliments on them.

I had black 12 years ago.

It makes the black and white pictures really nice!

You do what you LIKE! And honestly, I think black is extremely sophisticated and I think your BMs will thank you for caring about what flatters them

I''m wearing black as a bridesmaid this summer, and the dress is so adorable I''ve had to struggle to keep from wearing it before the wedding! Unless you really buy into superstitions, I don''t see any problem with bridesmaids in black. If you''re really unsure, though, you could always go with another dark, easily wearable color -- I think espresso/chocolate or navy would also look nice with your color scheme.

I''m doing it, and all the lovely pics on here of other ladies who have (like robbie) inspired me. My MOH is very happy with the decision. DO what you LIKE!!

My girls are wearing black BM dresses. They actually requested black because it''s such a classic color and they can absolutely wear them again - Black goes with every event IMO!

Thanks, everyone! I will have to point my sister to this thread :)

Black is fine! I wish I had gotten to wear a black dress for the wedding I was in instead of a purple one with beads and glitter that I will never wear again!
You could always throw in a yellow/green sash for a pop of color. Or just the flowers will be fine!

PS I LOVE YOUR AVATAR!!! too cute!!

I should point this thread to my sister too...I suggested to her the other day, and she scoffed at it. Booo.

Mine are wearing black dresses too and they are going to look fab.

FI''s 80-year-old aunt asked me what color the bridesmaids are wearing a couple weeks ago. When I replied "black" she raised her eyebrows and said "Oh....that''s....interesting." hahaha but I don''t care one bit!! My BMs are thrilled they get to wear black, and I let them choose their own style too, I just asked that they be from JCrew and the same material. They both bought their dresses on Ebay and only paid $40 for each of them!!!

I think black BM dresses are totally fine! I wore black as a bridesmaid a few years ago, and we could not thank the bride enough for picking a dress that every one of us was able to wear again! I think black will look really classic, and you''re right that the flowers will totally pop agianst the dresses!
