Hello. I am new and this my first post. I recently bought a setting a setting and .95ct F/SI1 6.03x6.20x3.93 diamond that after further inspection has a larger visible black carbon spot in it. I am returning it and am in the process of searching for another one. The setting can hold between a .85/1.15. My budget is about $7000 online. I am looking on Blue Nile, Adiamor, James Allen and Diamond.com. I have been finding plenty, but what I am afraid of is buying another SI1 that has visible blemishes without assistance so I have upped my clarity from an SI1 to VVS2 and better. This has limited size and color and I prefer the inclusions to not be feathers (risk of cracking) or clouds. I have found a couple that are in my range, they are smaller than my original in ct size but make up for it in dimensions.

The following (3) diamond are from Blue Nile.

1. 0.86-Carat Round Diamond
Price: $6,887
Ideal Cut, (G) color, (IF) Clarity, Excellent Polish & Symmetry
Depth :61.3%
Table :56%
Medium Girdle
Culet: None
Fluorescence:None
Measurements: 6.16 x 6.14 x 3.77 mm

2. 0.94-Carat Round Diamond
Price: $6,575
Ideal cut, (H) color, (VS2) clarity, Excellent Polish & Symmetry
Depth :62.7%
Table :55%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.23 x 6.26 x 3.91 mm

3. 0.94-Carat Round Diamond
Price: $6,637
Ideal cut, (H) color, (VS2) clarity, Excellent Polish & Symmetry
Depth :62.4%
Table :55%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.23 x 6.28 x 3.90 mm

My obvious favorite is the first one because it is flawless. I wanted to stay around 1ct, but it has good dimensions for the ring to sit perfectly. If anyone knows of any SI1's or better that have no feathers or any inclusions visible to the eye please let me know, this searching is exhausting and I feel like I have gone over every diamond twice. Thanks for the help!

Since BN does not provide images, or ASET or IDEALSCOPE I would run the numbers through the HCA. Have you done that? That tells you a great deal about the cut quality.

Can you post the crown angle and pavillion angles? That will allow us to run the numbers through the HCA to tell you about the cut quality.

After further reading I know what those are lol

The crown degree is 33

The Pavilion is 41.2

regarding any si1's that are eye clean, when I was looking recenty I instant messaged blue nile about clarity on one of their blue nile signature diamonds and they said that the signature diamonds are guaranteed eye clean. I see they have some signatures in your price rage that are between .9-1.05 carats & SI1- might be worth a look! (but double check me that the statement applied to all their signature diamonds - i think i was asking specifically about a signature princess not round)

like this one - sig ideal, .90ct, g, si1 and $1k under budget

Wow that got awesome ratings for fire and brilliance! My only concern is the feathering, do these small cracks compromise the integrity of the diamond? Is it more prone to cracking and is it bigger since it is an SI1?

sorry I'm still a newbie so hopefully someone more experienced can help with the inclusion questions - or maybe a rep at Blue Nile. If is really is eye clean like they said and nothing to be concerned about regarding the integrity like you questioned, I bet it would be a beautiful stone!

Will you consider buying from a vendor who has diamond in house? VVS2 is overkill and eats a lot of budget if you are simply trying for an eye clean diamond.

Yes, I agree with Dreamer that you are really overpaying when you get VVS or IF. A VS1 is extremely clean and you can't even see anything with a 10x loupe. VS2's are usually eye clean, too.

I would recommend looking at vendors who have pictures of the stones...Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, James Allen. That is the only way I'd consider a SI stone.

These would be in house at Brian Gavin, both under budget and in the size you are looking for - they are their signature hearts & arrows and have pics:

I think people on here speak highly of Brian Gavin Diamonds too in addition to the vendors Diamondseeker recommends.
That BN stone I linked you to would be in house since it was a signature.

OK I found one more and from James Allen (sorry I'm obsessed) - $1k underbudget, VS2 and Hearts & Arrows Ideal

You can see the magnified image but have to request the lab report -- it isn't updated to their site yet.
Wow you found some great ones!

I found this one online.

If anyone wants to post their thoughts about this one, I think I am going to pull the trigger on it. It is eye clean, colorless and it is price well. And it got a 1.2 on the HCA tool rating with Excellent in all categories.

Is there a way to private message people on this forum? I wanted Amy's Bling to evaluate the diamond posted above.

nope. I'm here... I'm no expert in comparison to others but happy to offer help...

VS2, triple excellent and rates under a 2 on the HCA. I'd say you have a great stone. I prefer colorless for an ERing- jut my color preference- but many others are happy with GHI. If you know you want colorless then I think you found a great stone. If you are goo with G or H you could either save money or get a bigger stone.

Just wanted to pose both sides of the carat vs color argument :)

I do prefer colorless.

The only other one I could find was this one it is a little bigger and same price point.

received 1.3 on HCA scale

At this point it's about your color vs carat preference

Actually just talked to the future misses. She doesn't care about weight, she wants the dimensions to be big enough to fill the halo gaps. Looks like I will be ordering the one from Eternity Diamonds tomorrow.

Enjoy the process!
