Are ads flashing on plates a good idea

Story

California is broke and looking for ways to generate revenue.
License plates that flash paid ads is being considered.

How am I supposed to concentrating on my texting behind the wheel with more of these driving distractions?

. . . and wouldn't it be funny if the bank robbers are getting away and the witnesses tried to get the plates but could only make out the big golden M.

mostly:

distraction while driving
not the government''s business
security issues
not the government''s business


Also, if it only appears while the car is stopped, how many people would really see it? Much of the time people stop close enough that you can''t see the license plate of the person in front. Certainly only the one car behind them (and maybe one to the side) would see it anyway.

If they added cameras they could display targeted ads, like for diets or acne medicine.

Once I was driving down the road and a minivan drove up next to me and they had their TV going for the kids in back and I swerved halfway off the road because I was trying to see what it was! lol Pretty sure it was Sponge Bob.

No luckily it was a swerve into a turn lane and nobody was there!

There is a couple of flashing bill boards that we pass by on the freeway and EVERY time my dh is in the car, he starts yelling at the signs. About how dangerous they are an all that! If the CA plates go into action, better not take a road trip down there as he''ll loose his mind.

I think it is a cool idea in theory, but IRL it is awful. There are enough distractions.

Back to theory... Are you allowed to pick what ads are on your plate? For instance it would be hilarious if it were to spread to all the states and to see one of those redneck types in a big truck with truck nutz and all with an advertisement for tampons. HAHAHA.
