With the bippin' and the boppin'; all this new gadgetry associated with a mobile telephone makes me feel old. Plain and simple. I do not understand it all.

That said know that technology waits for no old coot.

When our phone contracts renewed I decided we needed to get 'fancy' phones (yeah, the clerk looked at me strangely when I said that). Our company didn't offer the crackberry or Iphone so I got a Nokia (love them anyway) and I got DH the X10 minipro. Fine and good. Well I have 2 issues. 1. Don't know how to use it 2.Scared to use it.

Anybody else crap with technology or are all PS'ers whizz kids?

Oh, and if you are clever with the bits and bites can you please explain apps? Apparently DH's phone does not have bluetooth for images so he needs to download the app. From who? How? What is 'safe' to download and from whom do you download. Do you use Norton on your phone? I know I needed to keep up with technology but this amount of jumping through hoops sees extraneous....sorry I meant strenuous.

Please take pity on me and help. Gone are the days when everybody was delighted when mobile phones had a calculator...

Honey, I don't have an iPod or mp3 or whatever. I turn on the radio and push the button for my station. If I don't like the song I switch to my alternate station. If I don't like that one, I turned the damned thing off and SING!

That sounds like nirvana. Have you got room for a little ’un?

I am not all that tech savy, but I may be able to help a little.
Apps-They are programs that you can download onto your phone that will allow it to have extra programs
Are you both able to get online on your phones. On the phone it should be called a "browser" and may have the icon of a litttle earth. You would want to go there. It will most likely take you to "Media net" that is the phone internet world. Most phones do this. There are other phones that will get on the actual internet, but for your purposes media net is fine. Then you would search using the media net. That is also how you can get most ringtones

As far as bluetooth for pictures...That doesnt make any sense. Bluetooth is for talking on your phone without holding it. Like those little things that people put in their ears. It allows you to use your phone wirelessly on top of the fact that the phone is wireless anyway. I cannot imagine why someone would need bluetooth for pictures. Are you saying that he cannot get picture txt messages (MMS texts)? In that case an app should help.

Hope I was some help you you. Without knowing the models of phones and you carrier that is about all I can do.
Do you know any teenagers? Any teenager should be able to get you up and running in no time!

Thank you so much for replying….

Is Media net a website?

The Bluetooth I have used is to send (for free) a photo from one phone to another; I have been used to the options send picture by MMS, e-mail or bluetooth. DH does not have the latter option. In fact his phone is a PITA it will ‘pair’ with my phone but not ‘connect’ sigh... hence he needs a “Bluetooth file transfer” app, or so I am lead to believe…

I am Nokia E72 he is Sony Ericsson X10 mini pro both on an Irish provider.

We had teenagers to stay last week but fat lot of good that is this week eh?

Will nobody else help me?

I went on to the apple web page and it looks like McDonalds have taken over the world with Mac this and Mac that where are the damned apps?

Which websites can I trust to get apps from?

Anybody else?

Sorry to not be able to answer your specific question (I'm an iPhone user), but I just wanted to let you know that having to download the type of thing you describe is not a normal, everyday experience most people deal with when it comes to latest gen phones. Perhaps a call to your service provider will help with specific recommendations for their phone. I'm sure you'll get the bugs worked out soon.

Until then, perhaps it would help if you had a delicious, chocolatey pudding pop?

Thanks Fleur; maybe you are right. I am getting really cranky with all of this and need to stop looking. I will ring them tomorrow.

Funny you mention choc. I have beside me a choc fudge brownie I made and it is deeelicious. Mmmmh AND I have lemon triple layer cake in the fridge. Plus a 1.5lb loaf of wholegrain bread is just out of the break maker-maker. There is no shortage of yum here this week.

I am beyond a throwback. I can barely use my computer and have had the same phone for 3+ years and STILL don't know how to take pictures. That was a problem because I was at Ringo's concert recently and Paul and Yoko showed up and I tried to record with my phone but couldn't :errrr: !!!!!

I actually have a written list of all my passwords.

Count me in as one of the tech-dummies. I can operate a cell phone for the most part, but I got a crackberry through work, and all I do is make calls from it. I don't know any of the other functions, I certainly haven't downloaded any apps, whatever is on my blackberry came straight from our IT department. I don't text, if I try, it takes forever...and I'm only in my 30's!

Im a tech-dummy too. Proof-

1. Ive been using the same cell phone for 5 years. Ill keep using it until it breaks. I only text because my brother and my BFF never answer their phones, so I just kind of got roped into that one.
2. The only reason I ever use a computer is for PS, trip advisor, checking email maybe once a week (or whenever I think of it  )
Further proof- I have NO idea what an app is.

The thing is, I really could care less about all this tech stuff. It just does not interest me. Yes, Ive heard a million times that I need to hurry up and hop on the band wagon, but Im fighting it still. I cant help but think "what if all this crashes someday, how in the hell will people be able to live when they have gotten so used to everything being so easy?"
