Can anyone recommend a decent one in Los Angeles? With reasonable prices.

Also, is it really necessary to do this if I get a stone from a reputable place like WG, BGD, GOG, etc.?

Have you tried the "appraisers" function under the "resource" button at the top right of your screen?

You''ve got several top knotch appraisers in that area.
