Hi, I was wondering if someone could recommend an appraiser in the Bay Area. I was planning on seeing Nancy Stacy but her quote of approximately $275 seems a bit too steep. Is that an appropriate price for a single engagement ring nowadays? Thank you!
But I also go to Joe Escobar and have Erik or Mia do my appraisals. No they aren't independent, but they've never let the fact that I purchased anything elsewhere make a difference.
I believe Nancy Stacy has retired. My daughter contacted her and Nancy recommended us to see the appraiser she had personally trained:

Jane charges $200/hour, but you can have minimum 30min. for $100 if you only have one ring. Extremely friendly end knowledgeable appraiser/gemologist.
My local jeweler charges outrageous prices like that... $250+. And my husband and I have began to notice that he’s gone overboard on his evaluation of value so needlessly over paying for insurance.
Here is a referral for someone extremely experienced and also extremely reasonable. He comes as a referral by a well-known reputable vendor.
He is located in Los Angeles, but is in the Bay Area every month as he actually does appraiser ed in that region. I do not know his schedule given COVID. Patrick N. Davis

Rotem of Life Force Appraisals recently appraised an antique bracelet for me. He was very thorough, friendly, and professional. He charges $160. He has offices in SF & Oakland, though the SF one might be closed at the moment.
Specialties: My jewelry appraisals are unbiased and my only concern is to provide you with accurate documentation and realistic valuation of property. Although familiar with current trends, I am not buying or selling jewelry in the marketplace so the lines between appraising and retail aren't...
