I''m planning on ordering a diamond e-ring from BlueNile. The center stone is going to be around 1.2c. Can an appraiser appraise a diamond that is set in a setting? Or do you have the online jeweler send the stone to the appraiser, then back to the jeweler for setting, then back out to you?
Possibly a good alternative to this would be to have Blue Nile ship the stone unset, with the ring and see if the appraiser can have it set for you after the examination is done, if you decide you want the stone. If not the setting and the stone are returned to the seller. This is probably a smart way to proceed as many sellers won''t refund the ring purchase price if the stone has been set when returning it. I do think that Blue Nile might make a refund of the setting as well if you choose to have them set it in advance, but I''d suggest asking them about this.
Part of a complete examination is to have a Sarin report on the stone, which requires it to be loose. For appraisers that have the New AGS PGS software, a verification of the AGS light performance cut grade can be done as well. Also if you wish a Brilliance Scope analysis of it, the stone needs to be loose.
