I am new to the boards, and am beginning the process of having a custom setting made from Whiteflash. My sales rep is Chris. The setting will be a 3 stone halo setting in 14K White Gold. My stones are one carat and two one third carats.

I have an appraisal on the three stones together for insurance purposes, but nothing independently. I also don''t think I have anything that states many of the other measurements of each stone that you all talk about on here. The stones are very old, and were purchased from a friend of the family''s jewelry store.

Should I have them appraised before resetting? Individually? How do I go about doing this? Getting a "map" and specs of each stone? Is that even called an appraisal?

As you can tell, I am really seeking guidance here, as I want to make the right decision and have no regrets with my new ring!

Thanks so much.

what you are thinking of is callled a grading report. It will state the diamonds features. You do not need this for insurance purposes - but it is better to have the stones graded by the appraiser before they are set - WF work with plenty of good appraisers, some post here and might chime in - but you should invite them because they will be seen to be touting
