hey everyone, i just reserved a diamond at WF and am now contemplating my appraisal options

in ur knowledge and experiences, is it recommended to have the appraisal before the diamond is set or after?

i would like to have it done locally, but that means i''d probably have to wait until it is set and everything. does that complicate the appraisal process?

i understand i can also have it appraised before i even pay for it? have you guys had good experiences with that?

thanks so much everyone

If you do a search you will find there are a ton of threads on this very issue...

Well, you know, surfgirl, weight is relative. This an electronic medium. These threads have no weight...until you print them.

ya sorry bout that

my first couple searches just came up with a bunch of ''who should i use'' and stuff like that

finally found some good threads

so it sounds like i can get an appraisal while it''s set, but there would be a lot of guesswork involved.

initially, my main concern was just making sure that the diamond i receive is the one i bought. now i wonder if i should really have it analyzed without being set. hmmm

No, not a lot of guess work, I don''t think. Knowing it is WF, I think knowledgeable appraisers have recommended here their looking at it set is fine...because a) of the reputation of the vendor, b) the documentation you''ll already have from the vendor, that the appraiser, through their own abilities, will be able to confirm for you it is parsimonious with what they see and c) WF''s data will be far superior than virtually any data any appraiser would otherwise provide.

Except for pricing info. WF may come already with an appraisal you could use, but that would have a number you could refine with a local appraiser. Also, your local appraiser...or an expert appraiser, anyway, could help protect you where you also otherwise want it...in the stipulation about the diamond, so that, should you pursue insurance, you get a proper replacement, should it come to that.

See the FAQ section for several good threads.

Warm regards,
