Anyone have one? What do you think of it? What do you use it for? Specifically, any fitness-minded people out there use it for running/cycling/swimming/interval work??

I need a new HRM and it looks appealing for a number or reasons but I'd like real life feedback. I definitely like the safety feature of the SOS button as well as DHs ability to track where I am when I have it on so he doesn't worry as much about my running trails by myself. I'm wondering about battery life, ease of use/programming, music streaming capabilities, etc.

Thanks!

We are giving our daughter the rose gold one when she graduates in a week and a half! The rose gold would be perfect for you!

What’s crazy is that Apple calls it “Gold”, not rose gold. I was reading reviews from people who were very upset that it wasn’t the traditional gold. I, on the other hand, was thrilled! :mrgreen2:

Hi Shiny,
I have the third gen with cellular.
What I love about it is that you can't surf the web or facebook- yet you've still got a phone.
I find I'll look at the phone times when I might otherwise be .....just being,
So I like being connected- but free, if that makes sense.

The ear buds are a necessity if you don't yet have them.

I liked an app called "stepz" on the iphone, which does not work on the watch- but likely Apple got the fitness stuff down..... ( I cant' get used to that part)
Overall, pleased with my rubber ducky black on black watch:)

I have the Apple Watch 3. I also have the first Apple Watch Edition as well.
I couldn’t decide what to get between it and the fitbit (I can’t remember which one I wanted but it had come out last winter and could play music), so I let my husband pick.
I have the one with cellular but I honestly haven’t activated it but it is $10 more a month I think.
I run so I do use it to track my steps and my activities, but I still wear my fitbit one bc I think the fitbit one is more accurate. When I run I use the Nike Run app on it. I don’t think it’s that accurate tho indoors and I haven’t tried it outdoors yet. I have noticed that occasionally it does not track my steps at all. It just doesn’t count them. I have to power my watch off and on to get it to work.
I use it to track my elliptical and HIIT workouts as well. It’s very simple to use. All you do is dial in which activity you are doing and it starts checking your HR and your calories burned. If you use it while running it tells you the distance. But I almost never use it for that bc I prefer to use the Nike app just bc I prefer to track all my runs on one app rather than a few of them.
Battery life is good. I normally get at least three full days with it. But I usually just charge it every night. It takes a very short time to charge as well.
It’s very easy to use to be honest. You get it, sync it with you iPhone and your ready to go. When you want to put an activity you press the activity app and dial in whatever you are doing.
It also will have apps that are on your phone as well so you can pick and chose what apps you want on it and where you want them to be. You can do this on your phone or on your watch. To delete apps you just hold the app until the x comes one. Just like deleting apps on your iPhone.
Music streaming is very easy. It just automatically syncs whatever is in your iTunes in your phone. You can either use your phone to start the music or use your watch.
I bought AirPods last Dec but haven’t used them yet. I haven’t even opened up the box. My husband runs outdoors and he runs with his watch and AirPods. I never asked him how he synced them but I would imagine it would be similar to syncing anything with Bluetooth on your phone.
You can also use the watch to answer and make phone calls, text, check emails, etc.
The watchface I prefer is the activity one. I prefer it bc it gives me my activities right away, I can make phone calls if needed, and enter my activities without searching for them. Plus it shows the time and date. I used to use the butterfly one but then I would have to open my watch to find everything and I wanted to be able to see my activity without going through a bunch of steps.
You can pick your watchface on your iPhone and decide where you want the phone and activity spots, etc. I’ll post a picture of the one I use.
It tells me my activities with a glance which I like. C932D6BD-A016-4672-B274-F731E32CB2F3.jpeg

Other nice stuff. If you slide up the screen like your iPhone you can ping your iPhone (if you can’t find it), turn airplane mode on, turn on do not disturb,
Check battery life and it even has the flashlight just like the iPhone. Also if you think it got wet you can “push” out the water without having to figure out which app it’s in bc it’s there as well.

Oh! One last thing. I bought a few watch straps on Amazon so I could change the look and colors and one of the watch straps I bought is a rose gold bangle and makes the watch look more fancy (lol). Every time I wear it women ask where I purchased it. There’s a company that’s sells it for a lot more, but the one on Amazon looks exactly like it. Here is a picture of it.

Here’s one website. It’s called the ultimate cuff. They used to be more money but it appears their prices have gone down in price. I just ordered the Diana Cuff today.
They are currently running a mother’s day sale. Code is mother13.

Here’s the one I bought that sells on Amazon.
It’s less money but I will say the ultimate cuff one is smarter designed bc the one I have has these balls that get stuck in the band and press into my skin. That doesn’t seem to happen with the ultimate cuff ones bc it seems the ends of the pull chains are connected. I think when I was ordering a few months back, the ultimate cuff ones were $100 compared to the similar ones on Amazon. I had purchased about 12 bands in total so I didn’t want to spend the extra money at the ultimate cuff.
You can also get the replacement silicone bands on Amazon. It’s just so much more affordable rather than spending $50 on just one band at the Apple store.

I totally get the "cellular access without excess" appeal. I really like that too. I have the first generation Jaybird bluetooth headphones; I wonder if those will pair with it? I really don't like the cordless Apple ones. They just seem WAY too easy for me to lose :(2

Thanks for your input!

Done and done. That band is SO my style, and I can't thank you enough for sharing it! It feels weird wearing two watches (my beloved Rolex on my left and now the iWatch on the right), but the iWatch is more for fitness reasons and not really my watch watch so the dressier it can look (and less watch-like) the better :)

Let me ask - Do you ever run with this cuff? I'm wondering how it would withstand sweat, and if I'd be better off just changing to the mesh band for my runs/cycles/workouts.

We are giving our daughter the rose gold one when she graduates in a week and a half! The rose gold would be perfect for you!
I ended up buying one today. I have a lot to learn about how to use it but wanted to say that it's not quite Apple's typical rose gold; I held it up to my rose gold iPhone and there's definitely more a gold tone to the watch. However, if I held it up to gold then it would definitely look pinker. My guess is that Apple's trying to satisfy both markets with one color.

Ahh, well I will be curious to hear how you like it! You are likely right that they were attempting to combine both golds! We are giving her one without the cellular. She wants to mainly use it as a watch, fitness watch, and be able to see text messages coming in. She gave her boyfriend one for his birthday and told me she wasn't sure she still wanted it....after I had already bought it. So we are still giving it to her with the caveat that if she doesn't want it, don't open it so we can sell it! (return period already over)

Ooh! Which one did you buy? I’m so tempted to get the mia cuff in silver now while the sale is on. I didn’t buy it before from them bc it was more money but with the lowered prices and the discount code it’s a better deal.
I tend to stick to one band for a week or so, so yes, I have worn the cuff while running. I actually prefer it to the mesh one bc it’s easier to keep clean. I got the pink mesh band as well and I took it off almost immediately after I recieved. I don’t like the feeling of a wet band and the mesh one just feels yucky to me. Even when I wash my hands I’ll loosen up the mesh band and push it up my arm.
As far as the color. I love rose gold and I actually prefer the “gold” one in the third generation. My other Apple Watch is the rose gold as well and it’s a lot more pink. I feel like this “gold” is more in line with what rose gold jewelry looks like. I’ll post a picture of the two of them side by side so you can see.

Here they are side by side. I put my 18 kt rose gold simon G band and my 14 kt rose gold Halo diamond ring in the picture as well. I think you can see that the third generation is closer in color to the rose gold jewelry than the older rose gold first generation. image.jpgimage.jpg

Thanks for the feedback on running with it. I ordered the Mia in rose gold and have a feeling it’ll be the one I wear most often. I ordered a few cheapies from Amazon as well just to change things up a bit at times, but I have a feeling that Mia will be my fave :mrgreen2:

Oh, I’m exactly the same about when this mesh band gets wet. I hate how it feels :eek2: Can’t wait for my new bands to arrive!

Now I’m off to try to learn all about this watch. So many things I want to know (like can I delete some of the apps that I’ll never use on my watch (like News and World Clock????), or can I specify the activities I want tracked (like steps vs calories burned (since that’s so inaccurate anyway), etc.)

Perfect example, and I totally agree. The one I bought is a close match to the rose gold in my ering and the Roselor/Everose on my Rolex. I think Apple went too far on the pink spectrum initially and are now trying to correct that. But, they’re kind of alienating the fans of true gold now. My guess is the next generation will be back to three color offerings.
